Would you rather

Would you rather work for a small company & absolutely crush it as the top performer, or make similar money with a lower title at a company with more prestige/competition?

Keep in mind that there's potential to eventually become a big fish at the company with more prestige.

I'm referring to being an ISR at a small company versus an SDR at a big one, but could apply to a range of titles.

Curious what ya'll will say.

I like to see myself as a sparkly fish in every pond. Valuable and creative. Needed. Reliable. Tough. Sparkly.

I've been in both situations. You need to write out a list of pros and cons of both. Honestly seeing it in writing will help your brain make a decision. Good luck.

Both have ups and downs like fox said, If you are the small fish you learn from the big ones, but get the sraps, once you grow you can move to a smaller pond and lead the small fish while you get the first bite!Β

I'd go for Small fish in the big pond (I missed clicked) I don't like to be the center of attention and you should never be the biggest fish of them all, if you are, you are in the wrong place!

I don't like to be the center of attention either, but for me, a big fish is not represented by the amount of attention but by the level of responsibilities and income.Β

I do want more responsibilities that yield more income, I prefer big fish in small pond.

100% - big fish in small pond. I'm the first rep here at this startup and we're crushing it. Being able to have full ownership and on top get a piece is really rewarding and is a good resume builder. Of course, there's big risks it tanks and your SOL but nothing is guaranteed in life.Β

For me I prefer a small pond. I enjoy knowing all the people I work with including upper management. When I first started off at my company on the 3rd day the CEO came up to me and asked who I was and introduced himself. After that day he always said hi and remembered my name. This made me feel special and appreciated. However, there are perks to both big and small companies

Big fish.

Pre-IPO is the life to make it to financially stable and able to pick whatever role you want next.

The risk though, is always higher.

I've lost large ESOP's to chapter 11.Β
