WTF is a BDR Team Lead?

Greetings ๐Ÿ––ย

I realize this is probably an asinine question -likely has a straightforward answer. But what specifically are these Team Leads responsible for? How does their role differ from BDR Manager exactly? Or a senior BDR?

Can Full Cycle AE's also be BDR Team Leads? Would the want to?

Any insight would be awesome. it's Friday night and this is the stuff I'm thinking about.

Sheesh... ย ๐Ÿฅƒย

What is a Senior BDR if not a failed promotion?

Get the title right. The elite SrBDRTL as itโ€™s known in the wild is a special kind of mythical beast.

Paid like hot dog water to carry quota while also being a BDR manager and learning how to be an AE so they can spread themselves thinner than profit margins in the restaurant business for the promise of a promotion they should have had a long time ago.

Hope that helps!

hahahaha ughhhh the "team lead"ย

When I was an SDR this was s stupid thing the company did. the whole sdr team would vote and then that person was just responsible for like creating reports and keeping the team "motivated"

pretty much 0 real responsibility but one of those stupid hoops you have to jump through to get a promotion to SDR Manager

Haha such a shitty way to handle things. Title change, more responsibility but no pay increase, right?

It's a BDR who is good at the initial scheduling and can coach younger/fresh BDRs on how to run their process. For whatever reason some companies decided they want to have teams structured this way and pigeonhole BDRs into never becoming closers, but just managing more BDRs.

It's BDRs all the way down...

I've worked for a few places that did need it or an equivalent to it, and some that didn't. IMO the only reason I saw for it being used was they didn't want to make the BDR an AE (no openings, no trust, etc.) but they didn't want them to leave for a better role elsewhere either.ย

So it's a fake title to make them feel good? Yuck.

Yep. Can be an obstacle to career progression too. I've seen "progression plans" where you have to do x time as bdr and then y time as senior bdr/team lead before you can apply for anything better. Also some where you need to complete mandatory projects to move through these stages. Massive red flag for me at this stage.ย

Youโ€™re basically an SDR but you make a little more money and maybe you train the others a little. Mini leadership role.

In Europe BDR Team Lead is the correspondent of BDR Manager in US.

The title naming convention between EU (besides UK) and US is different.

(Iโ€™ve worked for both US/EU startups and this is why I know. ) I reckon there are mostly US professionals here.

Team Leads at my last org were "Sr BDR's" or people who had been in seat for 1+ year. This was like a step between BDR and BDR manager.ย

It came with 50% quota of normal BDR's but also would help onboard new reps and act as a mentor.ย

Valuable person if you know a person doesn't want to be an AEย

Have you even been a team lead or a player/coach for an AE team? What was the experience like?
