Ya'll Gon' Make Me Lose My Mind Up In Here, Up In Here

I joined the War Room just over a year ago- it was a wonderful mix of professional development, a pressure valve to let off some steam, and a hefty dose of reality via some hella funny sarcastic geniuses.

What the fuck has happened? There is hardly any content that actually helps me be better at my job. Most of the sales related posts are "which offer should I accept?" or "what do you think of my tech stack".

IDK what I expect any of ya'll to do with this post- but I'm just missing the days when this place was equal parts bullshit and engaging. The fucking troll farm that this has turned into is disheartening- and now with the exit of so many of the key contributors to the real content, I'm wondering what the future of this place looks like for those of us who don't give a shit what Sahil says on LinkedIn.

I wish there was a place on here to specifically post questions about interviews/offers so that they were filtered off the general feed.

With that said, that is technically one of the use cases this platform was designed for. But it does get annoying seeing it so frequently.

There are a lot of solid, valuable posts from the inception of the site. The thing is, some of them are SO good, there's no improving on them, really. So we are kind of stuck, as very few here aspire to be influencers. Most of us want to help and/or get help from the savage hive mind. Not sure what else to tell you, outside of there will be ups and downs in engagement. Hopefully for most of us, when there's a drop off, we're either out closing that killer deal (and busy) or on vacation, enjoying well-deserved time off after crushing it.

I'm not the creative type... I don't get spurred to write long-form posts about a niche subject that can help other people no matter the industry. But I appreciate the talent. I appreciate engaging with that type of content.

I just am disappointed that what I thought for a while was a bad-ass 'community' of like-minded professionals who understand the pressure, highs/lows, benefits and drawbacks of sales has become less of a tool to faciliate growth and more of a sideshow.

I'm not saying this should be a no-shitpost community, the ratio has just gotten too lopsided for my taste.

I’m new here, but I’ve helped build a few communities, and I feel like splitting the board into multiple rooms could help

1. Make a shitpost room
2. Make a strategy room
3. Make a “help me decide on this thing” room
4. Make a “I came here to bitch about something” room

Obviously, that would make it even more like Reddit, which seems like something we want to avoid here

However, as a newcomer, this already feels like a Reddit clone, but with less social infrastructure

Just little bit of organization could go a long way

Beyond that- no, I'm not asking anyone to read my mind. I'm asking why the investment in purposefull culture has completely been forgone. It's bizarre to me that what was once a place full of lively debate, best practice sharing, and new ideas has become more shitposts than actual content. Is it because everyone got fucking nuts about reposts for a while? Because a vocal few turned into straight-up assholes for a while? Possibly it's just because that's how a sales-lifecycle works: Passionate flame followed by descent into madness.

TBH, it's the life cycle of online community. The best communities do have a shared purpose, but also purposeful moderation to ensure that things are kept on track. We did have a number of people take on the moderation role without the moderation tools, which kinda works, except for the whole "you can't tell me what to do" that comes in a community of peers.

Any message board/forum/chat room will devolve if not moderated. This one is moderated, but not cultivated - that is up to us.

TBH, I spent years inhabiting this world before Zuckerberg was out of middle school.

We used to joke about unmoderated chat rooms - didn't matter what the original subject was, if left unattended, it always got to "How old are you, and what are you wearing?" and devolved sharply from there.

They're hard to find unless you know specifically what you're looking for. (which is why the insanity that surrounded repeat posts was stupid to me). Some of the OG's who had great posts have either deleted them (looking at Coups) or somehow I'm unable to search them because the username has changed. If I come across them I'll tag you.

I remember last summer it being much more focused around content, especially after the gift card purge.
Seems like with all the layoffs everyone is just pouring in here to post about job hopping.
Plus we've lost some older members.

I disagree. The content that can add value is literally endless when the audience is a large group- you never know what someone needs at that very moment. Also, just because something has been talked about before doesn't mean that variables (current market conditions, a different/niche industry, regionally, etc) don't require a new perspective than what was previously put forth.
