Yearly raise/review

curious to know what people's experience is with yearly (or more frequent) review periods. my company goes through this yearly at the start of Q1 and wraps in February/March.

I'd been in a weird spot getting promoted from SDR to AM in March when COVID hit the US so I didn't have an SDR review from 2019 due to the promotion, then got feedback that no raise was "earned" from 9 months of AM work even though I hit my number. so timing was to blame apparently... besides that the feedback was that sales reps don't get raises - you sell more to make more. well a higher base and OTE would earn more per sale, so I disagreed with that. I ended up with a $3K/$3K raise, but I'm interested how this works with other SaaS reps in closing roles (or SDRs if it's common)

Welp at the start of 2021 I got a salary raise from $53k to $55k… so basically nothing. Not too sure what to recommend other than switch to a different company if you’re looking for a considerably higher salary.

I wound up moving to a competitor for $70k salary instead of $55k salary, as well as higher OTE, hence why my opinion is what it is

I think my curiosity is more of “do sales people normally get raises” or do we get told to go sell more if we want more. I make good money for my experience and location, just wondering if it’ll stay or ever increase lol

It's pretty normal to ask for a raise each year into your role if there's no promotion.

My argument is that you need a raise or else you're taking a pay cut each year due to inflation!

If anything, can you ask for a higher OTE, if they're not giving you a raise in base?

Biggest payrqise steps are always made outside your current company. (I know this is idiotic, but true)

keep in mind, $$ is not everything
