Your Favorite Thing to HATE About Sales?

If you had to pick one thing about your sales job, what is the #1 thing you hate dealing with?

Is it bad sales leadership?

Poor leads from marketing?

Getting into discount tug-of-wars?

For me, I would have to say it's dealing with customers who will not give you a straight answer, keeping me from actually being helpful when I'm working with them.

Prospects with no balls. Includes prospects who ghost, lie, and noncommittal twits.

I'm not going to come kick your ass if you tell me you're not buying, I promise. It takes one minute to send me a message or give me a call to say thanks, but no thanks. Have some common courtesy and respect for other people's time. That way, not only are you not being a gigantic douche, but I can move on with my life and not bother you anymore. Everybody wins.

I think my least favourite of this group are prospects who agree to a call because they can't say no/their boss told them to, but then they act like a crabby five year old throughout the entire conversation. If you're just going to give me snide, sarcastic, or one word answers to even a polite "how's your week going" you can fuck off. Don't take the meeting next time, you aren't doing me any favours.

Timewasters/lukewarm prospects SUCK to deal with. I feel that when I'm selling to someone who is in a middle position with only half-authority is a slap in the face(or is just there to *gather data* to then make a recommendation to the actual decision maker) .

Honestly in my earlier days where I would put up with it, I had a few prospects where they just tell me to call back in a month every time I called, so I made it a game where I would call them just to shoot the shit and see how many times I could get them to tell me to call later.

To me that's a clear message of zero respect to me. There should be a special place in hell for people who do this. Especially nowadays where we have so many ways of communication (email, phone, text message, LinkedIn - you name it)

The inevitable months where you feel like a shit head who couldn't sell umbrellas at the beach because your numbers are sucking and you're getting hounded about it by leadership.

Very true, we have all been there and it's tough to not let it get at your self esteem.
When it happens to me, I change up my process and try to be analytical to take the emotion out of it.

Prospects that won’t be straight with me. I’m going to be candid and hope it gets reciprocated. They only hurt themselves when they won’t give you the decency to be straightforward
