Your top cold calling story

Cold calling is hands down one of the hardest jobs out there and if you can master even a portion of this painful task you will find some sort of success in sales.

That being said we've all got some war stories. Whether it's calling a prospect who was recently deceased and still getting a meeting with that company (been there) or that awkward conversation with someone who was just fired (done that).

I always love the cold calls where people ask if I can come work for them.

Oh, one time I mentioned to a guy that his Google rating was on the low side. He said, "last time I checked, it was at a 4.8. Someone's getting fired. I hope you're happy, you've just ruined someone's long weekend." That was an awkward conversation, but it turned into a sale.

Called, emailed, stopped in, called, emailed, called, emailed, called, stopped in, emailed. This was over the course of 1 year.

Guy finally emails me back, “Don’t ever email me again.”

FF 6 months, I get an email from him, “We’d like you to come by.”

I show up, sit down across the table decide to let them talk, after all, they invited me. They start going into all of these problems they’ve had with accounting... blah blah blah... I start to pick up on the fact that I’m not who they think I am. They offer me a job in accounting.

I tell them, “well, I can’t take the job, but I’ll gladly outfit whoever you do hire for the role with their new tech setup (laptop/dock/monitor) and slide my card across the table.

They emailed the wrong *insert first name*. Because I’d emailed him so many times, my name/email was saved in his outlook and he accidentally emailed me and asked me to come in.

Ended up buying from me too for a workforce IT refresh.
