Your Why Is More Important

Savages....maybe it's me coming back from vacation. I can't stop thinking about this so thought I would share with all of you.

There are so many reasons why we are in sales. I would argue many are superficial, especially early on in a career. When we are flying high it's so easy to love this job. Watching those commissions checks hit the bank account once a month. Who wouldn't want to be in sales?! There are more times than not, when the lows are very low and the grind is for real. Getting punched in the face call after call. That is when the rubber meets the road.

After all my years in sales I am convinced it's important to have a moment of honesty and ask yourself, "What is your why"? This is the difference of making sales a career versus just a gig. Your why is the jet fuel to a multi million dollar plane. Without the fuel all you have is an incredibly sexy plane but no where to go. So...what is the point?

If you are reading this, I would encourage you to be honest with yourself. Map out what is your true why this year. By doing this it will may be the difference between a good year and a great year. Maybe the difference between a PIP and hitting quota. Wherever you are at...find your why and watch your success take flight.

What is YOUR why, OP?

I've realized lately that I don't enjoy sales, but I am financially secure and it is a path to realizing my dream job. Once the debts are at or near 0, it's over for you bitches.

That is a fair question and similar to you. Let me break it down into personal and professional.ย

Personal: I come from nothing. Every thing I have was built on hard work, sweat, and tears. I make more now than my 2 siblings and parents combined. My personal why is for financial freedom to start building generational wealth for my family. Right now I'm at the age where it's not about me at all, but the family which I was part of creating. (Don't worry...I still take care of me ;-)ย  I plan on doing this sales thing until I'm in the mid 50'sish, then will do whatever I want. Maybe own a franchise.ย

Professional: I treat my clients like a Rubik's cube. Trying to figure them all out and put each of the puzzle pieces together. It's the challenge and the rush of winning and seeing them win. Then my other why is mentoring the next generation. Yes sales is evolving, but as a career long professional. I believe we need to teach the next generation the art of selling. There is no AI or tool out there which can replace it. Many providers try...but it's all buzzword bullshit.ย

This is great. My CEO just talked to us about this and had us do this exercise. We really had to dig deep to figure this out.

Great post!

Great post and great point, it's important to know it's not just the money! I honestly love to sale, I'm not terrible at it, and I don't feel like I'm working while I'm in the middle of seliing. That's why I keep it up, I'm happy.ย
