AWS screening interview

What to expect in AWS screening interview? Recently had screen interview for a sales database specialist role by an AWS VP. She cut the interview short, explained no fault mine, and ask if I'd sit for a second screen interview. I agreed. The second screening interview I was asked to recite every AWS database service by feature and use case. Does that seem appropriate?

I interviewed with Amazon a few years ago and this was NOT my experience.

Amazon interviews are fairly structured and this was definitely not how they usually conduct them.

Sounds like you are getting a weirdo in the interview process. If you think it didn't go well, don't hesitate to go around them and make your case that they have a screw loose but you are still intriugued by the opp. My two cents

Thanks for your point of view. Which I agree with you on. I did shoot the VP a message seeking feedback, no response. Company policy is to ghost candidates. So went nuclear and sent message to SVP HR expressed my frustration. Lots good companies to work for AWS not one, they lack humility.

Source - from an Amazon employee that's trained to interview by amazon, that's not how it should work. Completely agree with the comments below, you've either been conned or have some great ammo to use against that HM. If the interview was virtual, which platform did you use for the interview (Zoom/Chime/Teams etc)

I’m aware of the online guides thanks, and took advantage of few of them in preparation of the so called screen interview.

No. They are a huge corp with a structured STANDARD interview process, if it weren’t the same for everyone, and they didn’t have an objective way to score folks, they would risk too much legal backlash.

You either got conned into taking the call by someone pretending to work at AWS, or got super lucky and have grounds to put that person onnnnn blast.

Went through the process with them and the screening interview was a recruiter reading a script to me and at the end, asking me if I wanted to move forward; bizarre but very bureaucratic

It was two video calls, one was with the VP other BIzDev guy with Solution Architect. Both were setup as screening calls. The recruiter sent standard AWS links explaining leadership principles and star unpacking communication procedures. I think the job requisition was poorly written and breakdown in internal communication about job requirements. All could have been resolved if not for their obstinate ghosting policy. End result everyone loses.

Ouch, yeah, that seems to go against their protocols as far as I know.

I appreciated the data dump up front cause she gave me all the info I needed to evaluate the opp. They also wanted me in office >3 days a week, seemed great, but I think I’m a while away from settling down in a large corp.

Their ghosting is very shitty, the recruiter should have sent you a generic email at least. They can’t do more than that without risking legal trouble or “discrimination” if a candidate doesn’t like the constructive criticism they would otherwise provide. Sucks but I get it.

Exactly right. If they want someone with experience selling AWS database services they should say so in the job requirements.
