Direct Applications vs Recruiters

I'm curious to get some feedback and thoughts on whether people have found greater success through executive recruiter services, LinkedIn applications or direct company career page applications.

There are so many directions it seems you can go when you're pursuing new opportunities for career advancement; and historically, I've found greater success going direct to the company. That said, the world has significanly changed over the last 5 years; and I'd welcome some perspective from others who have made more recent career transitions.

Go direct to the hiring manager. Cut em all out.

Thank you.ย  Good to know the world hasn't changed that much.ย  I always prefer going direct to the source.ย  I will likely still hedge my bets and see if I can identify a solid recruiter to compliment my efforts.ย

since your a VP i feel like it would be best to use an executive recruiter....but I really dont have experience.ย

For some reason I would feel like VP level contacts would be referred in from a current employee or an executive recruiting.ย

If you are an AE or below I feel like going directly to the company would be the best.ย

I do agree that the executive recruiter channel may have a value, especially in todays market.ย  I'll probably compliment my efforts with identifying a solid executive recruiter to keep an ear to the market for me.ย ย
I liken executive recruiters to channel sales.ย  You'll typically get your biggest and best deals working directly with an end client; however executive recruiters (like channel sales) will amplify your voice or awareness of other opportunities of value...you just might have to work a little more for them.

A solid recruiting team is a gold mine of applicants and they can help you sort through the bullshit.ย

Recruiters are a necessary evil sometimes but unless youโ€™re a round peg trying to fit into their round hike, they wonโ€™t give you the time of day.

So if your not EXACTLY what they are looking for, go direct to the HM.

most recruiters are garbage and give the industry a bad rep. if you can actually find a good one though, they're worth their weight in gold

I have my current job because a 3rd party recruiter cold texted me and they were actually competent. So it can work, but in my opinion most of the time you should go right to the hiring manager.

Good recruiters are rare in my experience. Itโ€™s a tight rope to walk through bc the recruiter can blow ur shot as to how they present you. Know when to drop the recruiter and go into the hiring managers office through the back door.

Iโ€™ve always thought recruiters are just failed real estate agents. All real estate agents are failed actual sales people, so that checks out.
