What is a reasonable base for an SMB AE role?

I wanted to get an idea of what the averages are like in this current market. Is 60k basically the standard or is it higher now for an SMB AE position?

$50k minimum base regardless of anything. Places like twilio and databricks are like $80K+ for their smb/growth segments

Need to know things like- company size, industry, segment, amount of experience (from your post I am guessing not a lot) to get any sort of idea on salary or OTE

Really depends on product and market and OTE. 55-75k base is expected range

That base sounds pretty average for SMB. Usually a 50/50 split between base and variable is pretty common and the overall OTE is simply a result of quota. Have a bigger quota? can afford a larger OTE and hence larger base.

i.e. let’s say you’re at a 60/60 split for a $120k OTE, you can then reasonably expect an annual quota between $480k and $600k and sometimes more when you factor in SDR, sales engineer, etc.

The question is very open. Very much dependent on responsibility, size of company, location, etc.

Early career 0-5 years out of school 65 is not bad, great sales people don’t care about base as much as the commission structure. If commissions are strong, base should be irrelevant. BUT 60-70 is what I pay SMB folks with a 120-140 OTE

Except there is a 35% tax on commissions so unless you are hitting accelerators or closing bigger than normal deals, it is important to care about base.

I agree, in so much as it keeps your needs taken care of. And, if your company doesn’t have a strong commission plan, then base is more important.

This also depends where you live. In SF or NY you will make more bc you can hit clients locally and without crazy travel, that is valuable to the company. Also years of experience is a big thing to consider. Are you 6 months in the role or 10 years?

Really ranges, but some startups that are bootstrapped will  pay $50K, others that raised will pay $65K-$85K depending on whether you're a Jr or Sr AE
