Which Hotel chain are you?

Most business travelers decide on a hotel chain and then stick with it for the loyalty program. 99% of travelers, in my experience, are either Marriott or Hilton. But others do exist. Which are you? And bonus points for sharing why you are with the one you're with.

Whatever works best in terms of value and proximity. And similar to@Notmyrealname , I use the booking site assocatiated with my travel credit card to maximize points.

Just used a few K of those to help fund my elopement/honeymoon.

I tend to stick with Hyatt where I can because I have found their hotels by far the best value for money and the staff are always great however the one drawback is they are not as widespread as either Marriott or Hilton.  They do have reasonably good coverage in the cities I frequent though so they work well for me.

I used to be a "lets book anywhere" kind of person but from experience I think it is always worth building some kind of loyalty with travel groups as the perks are often worth it.  For example there is a Hertz rental location I frequent and the team there know me by name and regardless of what booking I have made, always have a Volvo waiting for me, prepared and ready to go.  Another example is Air Canada Concierge calling me directly to make sure I got through customs ok on a connecting flight and to let me know which gate the flight was departing at and to make sure I would get the flight.

Not bragging with the above statements, there is pros and cons to travelling so much, however status and loyalty makes frequent travelling just that little bit easier.  If you are an infrequent traveler then loyalty is less of an issue and I would go down the route of wherever is most convenient or is the best option within the budget.

At the end of the day everyones situation is different and if you are not travelling enough to cross any status thresholds theres no point chasing it and making your life less comfortable than it could by being flexible.

Loyalty can definitely pay off. I have saved thousands by using my Hilton points on family vacations.

Exactly so.  I would still sign up for loyalty programs even if you arent travelling frequently because the points will slowly add up that you can redeem for personal use.  I have enough points with one airline for 3 or 4 business class intercontinental flights that I plan on using for myself.  Granted I fly a lot with them but even if you travel a little they add up and you can save a ton of money.

I will use either Marriott or Hilton, depending on which has a better deal or brand available in the town I'm staying in.   Despite the fact I've never seemed to reach truly elite status with either company, I'm still treated (for the most part) really well by both.  Marriott has come through BIG and unexpected a few times - not had that with Hilton, but I haven't stayed at their high end properties either.
That said, VRBO has been great as well.  Depends on what I'm looking for, and who my travel partners are.

Don't use any particular chain. Usually whatever is closest to where I need to be, is nice, and can be expensed. I always book it through the same booking site so I get discounts through their loyalty program that carry over for personal trips.

You ought to look into sticking with a single chain. Can really pay off.

After the SPG acquisition by Marriott, I regret my Hilton AmEx card - but you gotta dance with the status that brung you.

I'm more of an Airbnb/vrbo guy. but if I go the hotel route I'm not really that picky about what chain. As long as it looks nice in the pictures and has good reviews that's all I care about

I like those for vacations but not for business travel.  Too complicated and no loyalty points.

I don't really care about the loyalty points. I book it on my own credit card then expense it so I get the regular rewards points anyway.

As far as too complicated goes, I typically try to book any travel so that I can extend the trip into the weekend and bring my girlfriend along so we get a free mini vacation out of it. So it ends up being easier than a hotel usually.

I am mostly a Hilton person when I travel, which isn't much.  They have properties everywhere and usually give me an upgrade when I ask.

Motel 6, they leave the lights on for you and bed bugs come free of charge each time....

Serious note, I am not loyal to any one hotel chain but have been leaning more towards Hilton just because they have the closest locations to where I am typically having to travel to each month.

Worth it to just stick with 1 chain despite the inconvenience at times.

Marriott's points program has been tough the last few years to book anything fun. Considering Hyatt.
