$90k deal In flux due to silly regulations

6th day as an AE post-SDR jump.

Got a signature on a $90k/year ARR spender with good potential for services work/other opps with them over the next couple months.

Company first customer in Europe.  As a company, anything outside of the US has been off limits in the past due to logistics of contracts.

We've grown a lot recently, and Ive gotten the blessing from our CFO/VP Finance/VP Sales(my boss)/VP Commercial to run with it.

Problem - were a big tech reseller and technically aren't authorized by that big tech company to sell in Europe.

The accounting team has sorted out the tax side of it, & there's 1 sales ops guy who won't let this through, everyone else is trying to find a loophole, & I'm stressed bc In supposed to be in charge & I'm barely in role & now the customer is waiting for onboarding...any words of wisdom at all?

You sold a deal that can’t be legally fulfilled. It’s on your VPs to take the fall and figure it out for you since they told you to get the signature.

Get authorized to sell in that country?

It’s a long ass audit process unfortunately that involves having certified engineers in that region, so definitely a solution just not one that’ll help me with this customer

Just odd that nobody along the way asked: are we authorized to sell here...

The customer didn't ask?

What does your companies legal team say? They'll likely be the ones to offer solutions.

Try burning the building down, then they will be distracted so you can just close it with no one noticing.

Does the EU company have any registered business in the US? Can you sell it to them and let them deploy where they want to?

Rolling 20's all day
6 days in and you have a signature on a $90k contract opportunity? Dang!
This sounds like a potential legal issue down the road if not cleared though.

Yeah, this shouldn't blowback on you and is very shitty of senior leadership to let it happen. Have management take over dealing with the customer if its going to just give them bad news.

Bro it’s in flux because you sold something that wasn’t yours to sell.

Three routes:

1) kill the deal.

2) snake out your OEM and do the deal under the table-probably not worth the risk especially for only 90k

3) speak to oem and ask for an exception
