Anyone work in staffing?

I've been interviewing with a bunch of companies over the last few weeks, following @SADNESSLieutenant 's process to great success. (Asked one hiring manager of a "unicorn" how well his SDR team did, he said only 20% hit quota and followed up with "only top performers need apply" ------- and marked that one closed lost)

Connecting with hiring managers and recruiters directly is a total game changer.

I know y'all are LOVING my repeated cries for help during this process, so I'll bless you with another experience.

Cold called the director of one of the top IT staffing firms in my city, got his interest, booked a meeting. Guy tells me SAAS industry is over hiring right now, desperately trying to please investor expectations before interest rates rise, and that it's too volatile for a quality noob like me to be thrown into the meat grinder. Pitches me an "enterprise" staffing AE role under him instead.

Pay plan sounds very nice, avg. Tenure is 8 years, his whole team is hitting quota, (it's another story for the actual recruiters) I'd be selling "contract workforce services" and bringing in new midmarket/ent logos for the recruiters/AM to manage.

Anyone have experience in this line of work? I wasn't expecting him to poopoo software so hard.

Been there done that. I will never emotionally/mentally recover from it. I’d rather spend Christmas in Rikers. Only work in staffing if you fucking hate yourself. :)

Can attest - it’s not fun. The only good thing to come from it is that you get good connections.

I’m bias as I fucking hated being on the demand side of a recruiting firm.

I never even considered it before, some quick googling looks like the market is crazy competitive

If SaaS is over-hiring, aren't you part of the problem working in staffing?

Right? I'd rather risk a wack software gig, that way I can continue to hop up the ladder in that direction.

Agreed. I'd suggest continuing your quest for a solid SaaS company. Sounds like you're running a great process.

Staffing is a brutal job. I would only go into something like this if you had literally no other option and they had your sister captive and in order to get her back you needed to get the job so you could get inside info on whether or not she was even alive and find where she was being kept and break her out all while living under an alternative name to trick your superiors and living in fear of being found out but knowing that it will all be worth it in the end once sweet Beatrice is safe at home.

Something like that.

Burn Towns, Get Money
I used to work in staffing. Was a recruiter and ran a full desk (Did the AE work too).

Honestly, the BS inside my own company is what drove me out of it. The customers were great, and it was very rewarding to meet the good candidates and help them find their match in their next boss. In fact, I still have many connections over 10 years later from this job.

Just like any sales job, there are shit customers and shit candidates. And plenty of internal shit to deal with.

Staffing companies are almost always very metrics-focused and hard driving. Lots of turnover.

You can make a lot of money, but you really have to figure out how to let all the BS roll off your back and focus on the candidates.

Fringe benefit - the skills you'll develop in this job will make you pretty unconcerned with any future need to find a new job for yourself. Gives you great insight into  how the process actually works and how to maximize your benefit from the interview process.

Sell humans? Sell tech? Ones way more reliable. Also, sounds like you sold him so hard he wanted you on his team instead. He's bsing. Good Job young padewon. And yes run from that 20% lmfao. 100% quota attainment is great. Glad the articles are helping. Keep hunting. Although I will say, I hear there is some residual income with selling humans, IE. earning a percentage of their income as long as they are employed. but damn, not for me.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
The wife of a good friend of mine is in mid to mid-high level staffing and does VERY well for herself.  She's also very professional  and a credit to her industry.  I can't say the same though about all the recruiters/staffers I have met over the years.

Rolling 20's all day
Selling = sell product to person/company
Staffing = sell job to person and sell person to company.

Double sales for same moneys???
