AWS recruiter reached out and I need advice

AWS recruiter reached out wanting to setup an interview if I'm interested in a role: Enterprise Account Manager for Worldwide Public Sector. Fyi, I'm based in Canada.

Pretty happy with where I am right now, good product, good leadership, five weeks PTO plus stock options. And yes, I used all 5 weeks last year, it was glorious.

However, AWS would be a significant increase in pay... I know it's not always about the money however I have some school debt that is getting hammered by rising interest rates.

This is the second time their public sector recruiting team has pursued me. For any current/former AWS peeps, would PTO be negotiable should the offer come through?

And yes... I used the search bar and found some AWS posts, but none relevant to my needs.

If you’re happy where you’re at, and value the PTO you’re given…why take the risk of a fast RIF by a global company with massive forecasts that could easily be missed, leaving you a victim of hiring too far ahead of capacity?

especially in todays marketplace which is increasingly volatile.

Analyse the longevity of your current role and go from there. If its a keeper, is it a risk worth taking? If anything leverage the offer carefully(!) within your current role if you are overperforming

Commenting to follow along - always had AWS on my radar. I would check out a place like blind for this question to see if you can network with others who are at Amazon.
Another route would be tap your network for a 2nd connection over there to chat with about their experience in the interview process.
Also - doesn't hurt to take the interview and ask some questions up front with the hiring manager.

It’s just an interview, and you are not beholden to them to take the position. So, if you’re curious, go ahead.

Sounds like you’re in a good place, but I can understand the curiosity.

Its not real till its real. Meaning if you don't have the conversation and go through their interview process you don't have any choices to make.

I don't know, it sounds like you are in a good spot currently. I'd pass and stay put based on the situation you described. Grass isn't always greener.

Hey. They're a good company to work for for a short stint. Turnover is massive at year 2 so most don't get full RSU allotment. If you're not getting promoted or moving to a different team your Total comp takes a nosedive at year 4... I think I know your new boss 🤣. I can help with interview prep if needed.

Why not interview, you can say no. It can be a perfect fit so might as well take a call.
If you are serious about the role, I highly recommend back channeling to a rep via LinkedIn or your network.
Since you are happy in your current role, you can always use it as leverage for a raise too

I've also back channeled with someone on the team too.

Are you running to something or running from something?

You need to figure out, not if your current setup is amazing, but what you want and what you are looking for.

Amazon and the like will always come along.

Small update: back channeled to someone on the team. The RIFs were US-focused, didn't impact this team.

PTO isn't negotiable.

Meeting w/ recruiter later this week.
