Commision Currency Question

So I closed a $150k USD deal at the end of the year last year and have a 10% commision rate, so I get 15k USD in commision.

The issue is, i'm employed in Europe and I am paid in Euros. The exchange rate from USD to Euro has also dropped 2% since I closed this deal.

Should I be getting paid the current conversion rate today or from the date I closed the deal? Am i being an asshole if I ask for the exchange rate in December?

I would imagine that it would be the exchange rate at the time you are being paid out

I think you might be SOL. I don’t think you can retroactively ask for the currency exchange rate at a different time

It will be the time you're paid out. I've often billed in USD and been paid in CAD.

The upside (or downside) just really depends.

Would the employee contract state this?

It should. Probably can depend a little on how one’s employer’s accounting is setup, but if it goes into a USD account (in my example) then you’ve earned 10% of that commission, which won’t change. But the payroll account will be in the home currency and pay will come from there. So the math would happen when you’re paid

You’re going to be paid the value of the euro at time of payment. That’s unfortunately how it goes with delayed commission payments.

Zero experience with this but I like to find solutions.

Can you go to leadership and ask for a "floating" % to offset the difference?

What does it say in your contract? Or is there company guidelines, handbook, etc that explains it? I would assume this is in writing somewhere. I understand the rate sucks a bit, but it could also benefit you at some point in the future when the exchange rate goes up.

I get paid internationally as well. This is a definite drawback. Some months it makes me want to cry

If the company collects less due to conversion rate your 10% holds but on the lower amount, unfortunately. I'm gonna bet if the Euro went up you wouldn't see more than 10% on the ACV either. What a country

If they're agreeing to pay you in USD, I don't think they would be able to do much for you as your org isn't a speculator in world currency.

Ask your revops who might be able to clarify. Our compensation is simple - sell in USD and earn in CAD !

I’ve had this happen many times, Ive always been paid with the rate on the day if payment.

Do you get paid on the day you close the deal or only after your company gets paid? IMO the conversion rate ought to be set on the day you'd actually get paid because it could have swung just as easily the other way.

Do you a term in your contract that regulates that situation!
To me it's fair to get paid at you were expecting and the 2% should be covered by your company, so give it a shot and ask for the difference if possible.
