Considering a jump

Hey peeps,

I recently received a job offer for a new position that i'm debating on taking. The new position is Operations and would have me leading a small team in my territory. The pay is 10k more than my base right now and includes bonuses and a company car.

Downside to this is having to leave my senior position as an AE and have to relearn all the new processes and technical aspects.

Pros: Management, flexible hours, higher base, company car, more travel, WFH when having to do admin.

Cons: Territory is not doing well currently, no commission, less social life.

So you'd be doing sales, operations, and management? A 10k raise is not near enough for me to even consider that, especially given that you said the territory isn't doing well and there's no commission...hard pass from me.

I'm with coups, sounds like too much to handle/manage for not enough payout (sales, operations, management)

What kind of bonuses? How are they that great if the territory isn't doing well?

That's the biggest red flag to me - cool new car and $10k base increase doesn't cover working a shitty territory. Vets here like Coorsking can tell you that top reps who absolutely crush it at other companies still get brought down by a poor territory.

The 10K base and a company car isn't a game changer. I would take a hard look at the bonus structure and then be honest with yourself and ask how could your management skillset can impact a struggling territory, so when it comes time to collect that bonus it's worth the jump. This could also be an opp that sets you up for a bigger management position elsewhere, especially if you turn that territory around.
