How to ace SMB AE interview

Hey WR, as you can tell I'm having an interview for a smb ae role. Its my first time interviewing for one and this is definitely a company I want to get into (proven success, great attainment and excellent sales culture). How can I ace the interview? What should I expect and portray?

Thanks for the help!

Quick update here guys!

I've been chosen to proceed to the final interview and they want me to do a mock sales presentation with the goal of getting them to close faster.

I have until may 11th to prepare and im wondering what the outline or agenda of this should look like and how to really conduct this. Any more tips?

Have questions! They want to know how you can run a discovery call by asking the right questions.

High Energy - great questions - figure out exactly what makes the best person for the role and close them on how you are that person with every fiber in your being

SMB AE here. Have been in 12+ interviews for similar roles recently so happy to help (yes, I'm aware I sound like an arrogant douche right now).ย

What role are you in now?

- first, I know this is too little too late because the interview is already scheduled but interview with companies you don't really care about BEFORE your top companies. You don't want to be your most green interviewing with someone who's "definitely a company I want to get into." Harsh but true. That said, practice with friends or someone else JUST to simply help with the nerves. If you haven't interviewed in a while, the nerves can be too real for some people. Even if you're overtly qualified.ย

What they are looking for:
- what are your metrics your held to today? (calls, dials, meetings, etc.)
- time management
- discipline
- listening & EQ - what does a good discovery & qualification call look like? (peel back the onion, get deeper into pain points, get time/urgency, budget, etc.)
-what makes you a top rep? (with humility point out your strengths)
- how do you prospect? (be specific - what tech stack have you used & are comfortable with)
- how do you run a meeting (quick intro, time check, up-front contract, set agenda, then go. At end of call, set concrete next steps and expectations).ย
^ you don't have to follow this verbatim but the key is they want to know you have a process and approach things in a methodical and repeatable way.ย

Lastly, ask good questions to the interviewer. Tons of threads on here about that specifically (team structure, how many AE's, team hitting quota, what's your quota, ramp, commissions, average deal size, average sales cycle length).ย

Godspeed, let us know how it goes.
