I’ve decided to suck it up and go for SDR/BDR roles

hi savage folk. I appreciate your support over the last few days, I can see that I am going to need to take a step into SDR/BDR roles to get into B2B sales ... I just wish I had done this sooner, sent out maybe 100 applications, had 2 interviews and no offers!!!

well, as they say, let bygones be bygones.

cheers 🍻

taking a step back into a bdr/sdr role isn't necessarily the worst thing. It helps build a strong foundation in the b2b and tech space if you haven't worked in it before. Plus you can find several companies that will still pay in the 6 figures for those roles.

Apply to both AE and SDR roles - give yourself as many options as you possibly can.

What worries me though is when you say "sent out maybe 100 applications, 2 interviews...".  That tells me you you're just going on to LI or Indeed and applying without any follow up or knowing who you are applying to.

Its one thing to blindly submit a resume to some job with 100's of others and not really expect anything.  But I bet there are a number of positions within that 100 you REALLY want.  You need to build a strategy around applying for those jobs and treat those like sales opportunities.

For sure, thank you, I have certainly done that for the handful of roles I really wanted, no one accepting my LI invites/ignoring my messages… even less senior people! 😂🥲

I’m not giving up hope, I will be applying for both roles for sure, to be honest, I have spent every waking hour doing this now as I am a very obsessive type. It’s gonna happen sooner or later 😄😎

All the best, bro!

You might not be looking for unsolicited advice for the new job, but here it is anyway:

1) Proactively ask for coaching and feedback to consistently improve your game. If you hang out with people above your paygrade, you will level up to their standards by design.

2) Use a CI tool like Avoma to record and self-analyze your call performance. Makes a world of difference to introspect your pitch and delivery.
