Is anyone getting time off around Christmas?

My company isn't giving us Christmas Eve off, and Christmas is on a Saturday so we're not getting any days off. Then, New Years is ALSO on a Saturday so literally no time off. Is this the case for anyone else?

My previous employer had a huge break, more than a week.   So this is a bit different!

Since I have to work on a presentation for right after the first of the year, I'm actually grateful that we'll officially be around to work on the details, rather than me feeling guilty for hitting up my SC while on break.

We have half days for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and since Christmas/Boxing Day fall on the weekend we get the following Monday and Tuesday off. Also get an extra day on Jan 3rd since New Year's Day is a Saturday.

I took some holidays so I'm outtie from the 24th til the New Year.

imo we should just close between the 24th and after New Year's without having to use vacation time given no work gets done, but whatever. Apparently I could have it a lot worse.

I don't do much but approve contracts and send invoices between the 26th and the 2nd.

WTF...those statutory holidays have to be applied somewhere else if they fall on a weekend, at least that's the rule where I am. Those that work it get an extra day off and paid time and a half.

It's just like if thanksgiving or labour day falls on a weekend you get the following Monday off.

We're off from midday on the 23rd until Jan 3rd. Had to burn 3 vacation days but that's always how it is.

I'd for sure be using PTO around that time you haven't already. What prospect is going to be working on the 24th? Very few. Also, that's a pretty BS holiday schedule

Thanks all - this is good info. Wasn't sure if this was normal but it sounds like the answers are "no" and "no - take PTO!" I think I will 🌴

Uh, woof. Yeah, they're supposed to give you off Friday both weeks as that's when the day is "observed". And I was also encouraged to take extra time off (and we have *actual* unlimited PTO.) You are being boned.

Taking time off for the next week or two..ish.

Working closely with the partner in India, who's in charge of making sure our pipeline doesn't die during the break. I'll be maybe working evening hours 4:30pm - 8pm to ensure that everythings okay?

I still get a bit frazzled with time off so yeah that's pretty much vacation for me

Wow. Time to reassess if you're going to be there in 2022.

We have a company shutdown from the 27-30th and we have the 24th, 31st, and Jan 3rd off for US Holidays.

Of course, I have a big-ass deal that I'm working for a Jan close, which means effectively no time off. But Yeah, we get vacation this holiday season.

Also: Are you not eligible for PTO? Take some damn vacation days.

You should use PTO for those days. Everyone deserves SOME time off around the holidays. Even if you don’t think you need it. My company has the whole week off 27-31st. I’ve seen the last week of the year be off for quite a few tech companies.
