Is it wrong to ask for an answer?

I have applied at over 40 companies so far while seeking an SDR role at a different company. I have gotten back 3 responses like this....

"Hi Darrin,

Thank you for your recent application for a position at monday.com.

After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that we've decided to move forward with other candidates at this time.

We will keep you in mind and reach out should a relevant opportunity open up. Things move fast here and our needs are constantly changing; please don't hesitate to apply in the future.

Thank you, and best of luck!

Q: Is it wrong of me to reach out and figure out why I have gotten 3 rejections? I am certainly "qualified" for these roles.

No harm in trying, maybe dont expect anything but you might hit lucky.

Word it in a way that you arent begging them to reconsider, just say you have had a few similar responses but feel you are qualified and want to know if there is something wrong in your approach. Might hit a human the otherside.

Thank you! I am not even really trying to get them to change their minds or reconsider. I do actually want to know what it is about the awesome cover letter, the resume, and the personalized linkedin message to the recruiter that turned them off if anything so that I can fix it for the next one! Great advice! Thank you!

Unfortunately there is a high likely hood they didn't review your application since they already found someone. And that email was automated so responding might not get a response. But nothing bad will happen if you reply, so might as well.

If you have a relationship with a recruiter, always ask for advice throughout the process and after since they will almost always help out.

If you are actively looking make sure to "Actively Looking" on the jobs tab here and "Open to new opportunities" on LinkedIn.
Also, I would go through ALL of your past recruiter linkedin messages and ping them if they are hiring if you like the company. Who knows maybe they are?

I say that you should always ask. Whether it be a rejection for a job or a deal that gets turned down.

Yes... we do learn as SDRs wait for at least 3 "no"s

You are absolutely justified in asking for further explanation; getting said explanation however is a different story.

It's totally fair to reach out & ask why! Keep in mind, they might not actually take the time to give you meaningful feedback & could say something generic. But if you do hear something solid back, then it will just be more helpful in the long run

This is what I sent to a hiring manager a year back on LinkedIn, and got a detailed response within an hour.

ps: welcome to the War room, Darrin! A quick piece of advice: there's a chance you're doing mass-reachouts to recruiters and companies, which is why your response rate is pretty low. Maybe you'd want to change that and narrow your company search down?

It certainly doesn't hurt to ask. Be genuine and take the approach that @sketchysalesoutlined. Don't pose it as asking for reconsideration, just asking for feedback so you can better yourself. Odds are they won't give much feedback, but sometimes you'll get a friendly hiring manager who's willing to provide it.

Sure thing ,I would definitely do this if I were you as it would help you identifying that missing loop that could be something common you didn't find out yet!Once knowing it and working on it, it would certainly convert you from a 99 to a 100% fit for the roles!

You can try but I wouldnโ€™t expect much. Too much liability and thereโ€™s probably no real reason other than you were rejected by the ATS.

I donโ€™t think thereโ€™s anything wrong with reaching out in the context of โ€œhelpful feedbackโ€ as you consider opportunities moving forward. Some may respond, some may not. Either way, if you word your email appropriately, there is nothing wrong with asking for some helpful feedback as a professional courtesy.
