*NOW FIXED* / Mobile App Bug

Update / 5:51 AM PT:

*please ensure you have the latest version of Bravado Mobile App / update the mobile app from app store

The pesky bug that's been bugging some of you while commenting via Mobile App has now been FIXED.

And we didn't just slap a band-aid on it, we dug deep and made sure it was fully sorted out.

No more switching your profile every time you wanna leave a comment now. Your default profile would be your last used profile ("private" for most of you), just like it works on the desktop website.

Big ups to all the savages in the War Room for keeping it real and sticking with us through the ups and downs.

Keep being awesome, and stay tuned for more updates and events coming your way!

Peace and love,

@Gasty

Savages,

There’s a shitty bug that has been affecting some users while commenting on posts. The default profile selected might be “public” instead of “private” for some of you while commenting. This bug is present only in the mobile app and not on the desktop website.

There is a quick workaround that can be used to overcome this issue. Before you make a comment from the mobile app, you can change your profile from public to private.

We understand you wouldn’t want to change profiles every time before commenting. This is why a hotfix is being deployed right now that will make the mobile app workflow exactly the same as the desktop website (default profile while commenting being “private”).

Over the past few weeks, we have seen a lot of new users coming into the War Room and posting through their real profiles, asking for referrals, making connections, signing up for jobs, flex, and events, and getting value out of this feature.

Having said that, we totally understand your frustration with this buggy situation and promise to do our best to make it right.

Anonymity on this platform is supposed to be optional, and we are ensuring we leave no stone unturned to ensure that War Room remains a safe and valuable community for every single one of you.

Thanks for sticking with us through thick and thin, War Room.

Thank you for the update, but I'm about to be a bit cranky.

Honing in specifically on the comment about new users using their public profiles providing value: I'm sorry, I'm not seeing that these users overall are providing much value when they come in, post a couple of LI-style posts, then vanish from whence they came without contributing to the community.

I'm here specifically because it's anonymous, separate from my work, but allows me to leverage my experience with work to help others. In addition, some users post incredibly helpful things - like you do, Gasty, but I don't need to know who you are IRL in order for you to have established credibility as far as the quality of your posts. My completely unscientific observation is that those who are coming in to post using their real name are often performing that obnoxious LI brand-building exercise, which adds a layer of veneer to what would otherwise be actual real human engagement. I'm not interested in 90% of what the real name profiles have posted. I WILL go read a post by many others, as I know it will be of interest or value.

As a business, I understand if the real value for Bravado is in having users sign up for events and Flex and using the jobs tab, but I'm not seeing the value in the contribution part of the WR itself. Sounds like it's not going anywhere any time soon, which is a shame.

The fact that I doxxed myself TWICE today when I am really careful was beyond alarming. It's not that I don't stand behind what I've said, but the fact that I can refer to my past experience without naming the companies for which I worked enables me to be much more open about things I've experienced and can use. And that to me is the real value of this community part of Bravado - it's BUILT on anonymity. Can we not notice that one of the community rules is to not name your company - how is that possible with public profiles? The very purpose of the WR was to allow for open, free communication that is crippled when public profiles are involved. Now I'm not confident with the direction this is taking. I really dislike engagement on LI and have enjoyed being here DUE TO THE ANONYMITY.

I’m in agreement with a lot of things you’ve mentioned here, Sunbunny.

The value that new users get from the war room today is much more than the value they bring to the community. But that’s true for anon and non anon users both.

There are exceptions to this, someone like @RandyLahey or @HVACexpert - who started producing value in WR from day 1 of being anon - but keep in mind they’re the exception and not the norm.

I do think though that with optional anonymity, we can help fellow salespeople better, at the same time maintaining privacy through our private profiles. Tough, but do-able.

The bug on the app is shitty and I’m sorry that you faced this issue today even after being careful. But we’d never want to take the anonymous part away from this community, and the reasons are very similar to what you stated.

I appreciate you, Gasty. Thank you for reading through my rant.

I'll further dox myself (but anonymously). My first tech job was with a message board/forum provider. Rules of engagement, moderation, what happens when there is no moderation, what happens with tenor/tone/rules ... all of those things are very familiar to me, as I lived them for years. Most posters on most forums usually do not provide a lot of value out of the gate. The best ones lurk for a while, then post, once they've sorted out the unwritten rules of engagement. Others are more interested in telling everyone whatever it is that is top of mind and not in reading or listening to anyone else, and still others are flat out trolls. It's all common in any kind of online interaction. Point is, there's something very special to the WR that would be a shame to lose. Adding a moderator was a very positive step - and that the moderator is also an expert at sales, extremely positive.

The public profile is a miss, in my opinion, and the result of a bit of confusion about what the forum wants to be when it grows up, which is resulting in a bit of conflict between the business side needs and the service provided to anonymous users on the other end of it.

A giant miss. Also I call BS on the number of folks begging and actually using the public profile. I am here every damn day. The overwhelming majority is and wants to remain ANON.

Thank you for the kind words @Gasty; lots of people worked hard to make this place what it is.

Thank you for keeping us updated. I noticed it on my app as well, but usually comment from desktop.

Let me know if I can help in anyway.

It should be the default. It was at the beginning at least.

Either you haven’t updated the mobile app, or, you might have your last chosen profile as public on mobile app.

If it’s the latter, just change it to private once to comment. It would remember your last selected profile and would start showing private by default - just like it works on desktop app.

Thanks! At least it defaults to anonymous and not the other way around. You really ought to just take the Professional Profile out completely.
