Negotiating Offers

hey everyone! could really use some insight on negotiating some offers. So far salary and ote expectations have aligned but one thing I've been worried about is job security with ongoing layoffs in tech. Would it be advantageous for me to ask for a 3 or 6 month guarantee? I'd hate to sign an offer then get let go in a couple of weeks as seen in many LinkedIn posts. any help/suggestions would be great!

Maybe smart to upfront negotiate on severance pay too. So this is a thread fee days back, it’s a thing now :)

I don't think so companies would be okay with 3-6 months guarantee. Founders themselves are not aware of how the company directives are changing, and where they would be ending up 6 months down.

That being said, I would still call the shots and make the shift. Nobody truly (in all honesty) has job safety today. Not in sales.

hmm asking for a 3 - 6 month guarantee is unique thing to ask for.

Have you asked about the potential for future lay offs during the interview process?

I have not heard any company doing it but there is no harm asking for it.

If you are quitting a job to go over to them, than pre- negotiating severance or asking for a minimum in job security is not unreasonable. But what will you do if they don’t give it to you? Are you willing to walk away?

If you’re unemployed then you don’t have much leverage here.

I've not seen a minimum guarantee, but Pachacuti mentions negotiating severance - might want to consider that.

I think it sounds scary to an employer to have to give that guarantee

I guess they may not let you be in a position to negotiate this term but why not give it a shot!!

Asking for a 6 month guarantee is not that crazy but instead you may want to pre-negotiate severance with the org for firing/layoff/let go.

As a hiring manager, if a candidate would ask for a 3-6 month guarantee, I would probably GOL (Giggle Out Loud) and say something like "Hell, I don't even have that . . . "

If your concern is being laid-off, have you researched the company to see a) what their history for lay-offs has been, b) how are they funded, c) are they in a strong position in their market, d) are they profitable

So can you ask? Sure, you can. I would suggest, if you haven't already, doing some due diligence on the finances of the company and use that in your decision-making process of accepting the offer or not.

I think asking about severance pay is likely your best bet.
