Negotiation with European companies

Is it common in Europe to request a signing bonus and/or a non-recoverable draw for 3-6 months (Allowing to breath financially before commissions start working).

How do Dutch / German companies feel about this for example? At least where I have worked I´ve never heard of this. Really keen to learn from other European AEs and how you guys /girls have played out the negotiation phase of the salary offer.

I think the assumption in most cases is that the base will cover your living expenses and just as a general rule of thumb never base your cost of living on projected commission or you can be fucked after 1 bad month.
That said if you're leaving a role with current pending commissions/pipe you can ask for a signing bonus to cover what you're losing out on but no guarantee they'll say yes.

I mean have you asked? It’s a part of the negotiation. Ask for that “guarantee“ based on full or a % of OTE or a signing bonus and see what they say, I’m sure it has been done before. And if you’re worth it, they won’t think twice!

I feel like that's the key here. I know what you mean though, as a Canadian we don't see a lot of the crazy comp stuff that our US neighbours do.
But you really just need to ask, and be able to explain why.
Good luck, and let us know!
