Finally back in the war room after a long absence. Was looking for some advice.
Some background, I’m a top performing SMB AE. I think I want to have the fairly typical SMB > mid-market > enterprise career progression. The challenge is the mid market team here underperforms across the board.
One other option would be to manage my team, but there are multiple people much more tenured than me gunning for this role. I’m also concerned going straight to SMB Manager without upmarket selling experience would be career limiting.
Current situation: I am in final interview stages for another SMB AE role, more complicated sell for me, roughly 40% OTE increase, 12 month promotion path to MM (most people in the office got promoted start of this year so I believe this), all SMB/MM reps hit quota last year (saw a breakdown to verify this), doubling region headcount this year.
My question is, do you think this is the right move? It’s definitely a strong job market and I’ve been hit up for various mid-market/SMB Manager/SDR Manager roles. Is a safe lateral move the right call, or should I be aiming higher?
