Remote AE or Digital Nomad?

What's up Savages??

yesterday after a terrible time trying to rebook a trip I said f-it and booked a one-way ticket to Lisbon, Portugal. I'm going to attempt to work there as an AE because our company has essentially gone full remote and no one even goes into the office.

I'll be working 1-9 pm minimum with more than likely closing calls going even longer into the night. I plan to do this for 2 months.

Has anyone here attempted this for long periods of time? Does anyone have any experiences to share? Tips/Tricks on trying to make this work as well as possible?

With the Digital Nomad lifestyle on the rise I figure maybe someone in here has experience with it. Would love to hear some stories or tips.

Nice! I’m doing this in Costa Rica next month. I’ve done this in Thailand/Australia pre-pandemic, but those were both 1-year stints of mixed in person/online jobs with a work visa.

I’d recommend bringing a wifi extender & trying to stay somewhere that has a coworking space nearby just in case(they’re popping up all over the place). Foreign wifi sucks

Double check visa requirements - I think Americans can stay in Europe for up to 2 months on a tourist visa but worth it to confirm so you don’t get fined/arrested when you try to leave. Also make sure you don’t need a return flight booked to get in.

Any other questions lmk, I know a lot of boring but important shit about banking/phones/visas abroad

Holy Smokes! I was almost going to Costa RIca to do this but read the wifi sucks and the places are sketchy at particular times so I chose Lisbon.

Lisbon states 90 days without a visa so I'm only doing that length my first go around. Wifi Extender is a good call it may broaden the amount of spots I can go! Do you have any recommendations on which to choose?

I'd love to connect further on this with you but we're all ANON so I understand if you don't want to. Thank you so much for your input and enjoy Costa Rica. That'll be next years stop if I can solve for a few of the drawbacks I ran into this year.

Get the proper visa... you'd hate to get banned from the EU.

Love hearing this.

I just came back from a week long business trip in Mexico, which for me was the straw that broke the camel.

I’m moving, permanently to a beach in Mexico, from where I shall be nomadic.

I have multiple properties in Canada I can rent out, and with Canadian income levels living in MX, I should have sufficient funds to grow my net worth by 20%+ YoY

I’m completely autonomous at work, so I’ve actually started prospecting and hunting for more Latin/South American opps.  I speak about 70% Spanish and it was invaluable on the trip, but if I can close some business there I can 3000% make a case for having me stationed there. The company would probably pay for it.

Love this! I'm going to be learning Portuguese in my travels and I may attempt Brazil next year during the winter months. Spanish and Mexico will be an obvious next move! Good luck with your nomad lifestyle.

I am fully remote and never saw anyone face to face. I travel
sometimes but I’ve always worked as per the EST. Did it for a month or so, never for 2 months.

I did this in Hawaii for a couple months. I worked 2am - 10-11am every day. Not a single person at my company noticed

Can’t say I have any tips/tricks. I just stuck with the same hours I worked, built habits around it and then left when it became too much

I am curious about what became too much for you.

The hours, the constant want to always be outside and never work, paying a mortgage and rent, and living out of a suitcase. It was a great experience and I'm all about being a nomad but damn is it hard to do that when you live on a beach and its 85 and sunny everyday.

I have not. Too afraid of mandated face to face metrics.

Who are you going f2f with?   Are you talking about zoom/video call, or actual in person?

I seriously looked into doing the same last year, just in Mexico. If you can manage your time right, go for it.
