What is the polite corporate way to tell someone outside the sales team "this idea is stupid or something i already tried multiple times"

Its not like some principled opposition to taking advice from non sellers just really grinds my gears to receive a suggestion like "tell them this price is expiring" or "tell them we need to know x" or whatever else and its grating to hear this every week.

Looking for my seasoned corp bros to hook me up with the diplomatic rephrasing on this one.

Depends who's asking...
Is it your CEO or the marketing intern?

Yep. It completely depends on who’s giving the unsolicited advice.

" i appreciate the desire to assist here. Im always a fan of inter departmental synergies. As I review your approach, it seems like you might be trying to align priorities that dont need to be aligned. I will review the suggestion a bit more and ping you with any follow up questions"

Love this, corporate people love words like “synergy” so they will tickle their fancy and make them happy.

"I appreciate the suggestion, thanks for bringing it to me. We've tried this approach a few times and it didn't yield the results we were looking for. I'm always open to exploring new ideas but I think we need to consider alternative solutions in this case"

this is probably the closest of the 3 the problem is I don't want them to bring new ideas but its hard to say that without coming off like a prick

While I can certainly appreciate the desire to win deals and have the ink on the paper, believe me I am incentivized to do so, by putting fake offers and exploding deadlines out there it will do the direct opposite of the desired result. Word will easily spread about our business practices. Instead lets construct a way to tie pricing and concessions on our end to a concession on their end of signing before month/quarter end in order to have a quid pro quo status. Something like that

"Listen, I get it. We all want to see those deals signed, sealed, and delivered yesterday. But let's not go down the path of fake offers and ticking time bombs, okay? We're not trying to earn a reputation for shady business practices here.

Instead, how about we get a little crafty? Let's tie pricing and perks to a little thing called 'timely signing.' You know, a quid pro quo situation. They sign before month or quarter-end, and we throw in some sweet deals or extra goodies. It's like a dance of mutual benefits, people!

But hey, transparency is key. No smoke and mirrors, just straight talk about why signing early is a win-win. And let's stay flexible. We'll tailor our offers to fit their needs like a custom-made suit. And of course, once we've made our deal, we'll actually deliver. No empty promises here, just smooth sailing towards mutual success.

So, who's ready to make some magic happen without all the drama?"

Here’s my take on what you shouldn’t do but my passive aggressive instinct (which should not be followed) is to quip back with a useless suggestion that relates to their job function. Like, if it was someone from product, like a software dev…

Dev: “don’t forget to tell them the price is expiring!”
Big Shrimpin: “Good call! Oh! Since we’re dispensing useless comments and stepping on toes, don’t forget to prioritize X feature on the roadmap and sidelining what you’re currently working on… Sound good, pumpkin?”

"I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong."
But in all seriousness, if they're no one special or influential, just tell them yea I did that and they wouldn't budge.

"Thank you for sharing your idea. I appreciate your contribution to our
discussions. However, I wanted to mention that we've explored similar
approaches previously, and unfortunately, they didn't yield the results
we were hoping for. While I understand your enthusiasm, perhaps we could
focus our efforts on exploring alternative strategies that might better
align with our current goals. Your input is valued, and I encourage you
to continue sharing your ideas as we work towards our objectives
together."
