Social Media for Tech Sales--how important is that digital footprint to the job?

Ive noticed people use Twitter a LOT in the corporate world, but exactly how good of a time investment is it for me to employ that (or even IG/TikTok) for relevance, prospecting, etc?
LinkedIn and Bravado are my main platforms, as I like to keep my personal life completely separate from my professional. Not to mention the almost inevitable potential to fall victim to cancel culture with these social sites. What say you all?

It's a no from me dawg. Social media is for marketing to worry about.

LI is useful for prospecting activities (finding contacts, info, some people use it for outreach) and finding yourself a new job. Some people like to connect with their clients/prospects from their personal LI page, but I don't.

As for Insta/TikTok/Facebook etc...no. Unless you're the product (like our beloved Corporate Bro) or running the business page in marketing, your time is not being spent wisely on these sites.

Twitter is my personal account and I use it mainly for news and trends. My personal shizz is also set to private.

Do yourself a favor and make calls, comment on relevant LinkedIn posts, and leave the rest to the daft, irrelevant “Influencers”.

Right on, player. That's what I was hoping would be the general consensus, cause I do NOT have time for all that fluff. Get the guy on the phone and do my mf job, is the program

In my 7+ years in sales ive never used my personal social media for business purposes and have always done well. No need for it.

It's not that important for sales. You probably wouldn't find much on those other platforms. And this:

"Almost inevitable potential to fall victim to cancel culture?" My dude, what in the actual hell are you talking about? lmfao it's really easy to not get canceled.

I feel you bro. I was being hyperbolic in that last part--although I'm certain someone could go way back in time and find something I've tweeted years ago and cause problems for me professionally.

Social media is for any part of my social life I care to take online. My pages are private and not used for work.
My LI profile is also personal. I’m not going to blast networks or post anything I’m not invested in and certainly not daily marketing posts. I do use LI for prospecting, but not over sharing.
It’s bad enough that everything else is advertising or someone constantly trying to sell you something IMO.

If a prospect found my twitter account they would find some nonsensical tweets where I workshop being funny. It’s shouting into a void.

instagram, they’d find my kids.

I cannot imagine a world where twitter helps someone get a deal across. I work with a guy who bought followers. He has like 8k but hasn’t tweeted since 2017. It’s absurd.

That's what I was thinking more than anything. For that I keep them completely separate, business and professional.

big time no.

no need to create a big "digital footprint"

maybe like .001% of people go "i need X B2B Saas product....better call that guy from Twitter"
