[Temporary] - Downvoting is Disabled

War Room Fam,


Due to a couple of unsavory incidents last week (ie - users spamming downvotes to move up the leaderboard ... sigh), we have temporarily disabled downvoting.


We will be reinstating later this week, along with an updated policy around Trust & Safety.

Just a suggestion, but maybe have a visible "audit trail" of sorts for downvotes in the future.ย  I'd imagine people would be far more thoughtful in using them if they knew it wouldn't be anonymous.

There is an audit trail that's visible to us at Bravado. Hence how we are able to see when users are spamming downvotes. Personally, I don't think showing who downvotes you is particularly useful. Not tryna create enemies out here!

Right now the easy answer is limiting the amount of downvotes a user can give. We are discussing at the very second!ย

Iโ€™m not a Reddit guy but I know what doxing is. To me, that means outing someone who should remain anonymous. What I meant here was making a change so that any downvotes you make are public to the War Room. This would be a published policy so everyone would know. You could still downvote, just know others can see that you did. Not doxing like โ€œhey letโ€™s find out who downvoted and out that guy and shame him!!โ€

Either way, Corpโ€™s explanation made sense to me so I get why we wouldnโ€™t make this change.ย

Thanks Sahil for addressing it and making it a priority. Reading the WR FAQs it states "this is not an I disagree button, it is to flag and report an issue" im think a lot of people missed that one.ย ย 

Idea- If you downvote someone, you also lose a point, so make it count. Skin in the game.ย

Not all downvotes merit constructive criticism i see that some genuinely to rerank what is popular vs what should be. For example I'd downvote any off topic posts and I posted my share of off topic ones so if anyone downvotes them to put a more productive post be my guest.ย

TBH, gamifying the experience leads to exploit hunting... :( sorry folks. I am only UP voting ONLY from now on, even off the mark stuff.ย 

This is what I figured the community was settled in, as my post about upvotes was ignored, but the poll in the post which people get Commish for voting in had 50+ engagement with only 12 upvotes...

For those who are in marketing and can't do the math. 50 commish was given to voters. 12 was given to the poster. Seems off?

The system works, when everyone participates, but if it's largely ignored we will continue to see "what pump up songs/television shows/movies do you listen to?" remain a daily front page staple.ย 

I am glad you're taking a look at this, hopefully it turns this place into a supportive of everyone (EXCEPT marketing) place, where we bring each other UP and use it for what it is. A place for top performers to engage and grow.ย
