Update: Last day next friday, what do?

For those of you, who followed my last post my last day is next Friday. Unfortunately, from a business standpoint it doesn't make sense to keep a lame duck SDR longer than two weeks. I'm kinda screwed for December because I wasn't wise to have a sixth month emergency fund (Last time I won't have that).

For those who haven't here's what happened:

https://bravado.co/war-room/posts/help-a-tricky-situation?comment=true

TLDR: My boss got wind I was leaving in January, there's no hard feelings but my last day is next Friday and I don't have a W2 income for December.

What should I do?

What should I do for the month of December?

Yeah, just keep track of the income. My daughter dashed during Covid, and I had to help her reconstruct the trips. She earned a fair amount, though.

I’d be measuring the risk vs reward and my lack of interest in dealing with actual crackheads.

If you can, take the full-time off. You're already going to do so with Christmas/New Year's, so extend. Fully unplug and recharge so you can start your next role on fire.

Depends on where you live. Some states allow you to earn a bit while still collecting unemployment.

Yeah it depends on if you need the income now.

Personally, I’d take it was a vacation/ keep applying to jobs as a contingency in case the new org falls through.

But again, if you need to find work there should be plenty of place hiring even for part time holiday positions.

This is exactly what the gig economy is for! But I also voted that you go on a trip because you deserve a break.

A temp gig if you can find it. Uber isn't a bad idea, or if you can do without your car you can list it on Turo.
If you have a family you like, enjoy the extra time you get with them.

If you have a car, Uber isn't a terrible option, you could also really have fun and work retail for the holiday season, they always double pay this time of year.

Unemployment will take too long to kick in.

Enjoy your time off the best you can.

If you are resigning then you won’t even qualify for unemployment in most places. Don’t bother with a restaurant unless you can get in a place with high ticket money.

Uber isn’t a bad idea or go with a big box retailer for seasonal work. If you don’t have kids you could do night stocking and make a ton of money with no expectations to work beyond the 1 month.

I work weekends while between jobs using Shiftsmart where I stock chips for $17/hr plus bonuses (set to make nearly $700 this weekend, for instance) it’s not big money but it’s money and can be adjustable to your schedule, plus mostly weekends only so your week can be dedicated to other things. I have a referral code so if that sounds like something you wanna try out, lmk.
