Tomorrow is my last day... What can/can't I take with me?

So, tomorrow is my last day. I've done everything right and have left everything in my territory better than I found it. On top of this, I've compiled notes, emails and everything I can think of to ensure the next rep is able to pick up right where I left off...

I would never do anything like download customer data (on top of it being wrong, I know that forensics can be run on my machine... don't want to open that can of worms), but whats everyone's opinion on taking contact information from channel partners that I've made over the years? I'm not moving to a competitor or anything so it seems like this would be 100% OK.

Appreciate everyone's thoughts!

I would say if you're connected with the individuals on LI or other social platforms you're probably ethically safe to grab that contact info. In a past AE roll where I was also managing my own accounts I got really tight with the majority of my clients so I had almost all of their contact info. Came in handy more than onceย

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Put the contact info for those folks in your phone and it's unquestionably yours. Also, you can take your soul and dignity so kudos on that.

Appreciate all of this feedback. I'm always suuuuper careful and conservative about these types of situations. Not just for my benefit, but my new companies as well. I'd hate for them to deal with a big headache over accusations of me taking something with me that I shouldn't have.

Totally normal to keep your own self notes: contacts, customers you can use for references, customers you want to avoid etc - just donโ€™t do anything dumb with it is my advice (as someone who always does my own edit docs)

You can always keep their cards and ask for a LinkedIn connection to stay in touch. Also, keep your notebook/agenda always updated with some of the most relevant contacts, or just save them on your phone for future reference.ย

Make sure to check and review with HR (or accountable department) the NDA agreement if applicable.ย

Sometimes even if you built the database, you're tied with those little words in the contract, so make sure you check them and adhere to the rules of the company.ย

As a final touch, let your contacts know you're transitioning to a different place to plant a seed and leave the doors open. Best of success in the new challenge.ย

If you talked to them before, you can have their info personally saved. It s your connections and network as well.ย

Never a good idea to sell something not on the truck when you have no control over delivery. If you're getting pressure to do it, ask your boss / head of product / whomever is pressuring you to deliver the message. If they're not willing to put their credibility on the line why should you? Also, your approaching a situation where you have to write an out into the contract (i.e. if you don't deliver feature X by Y date we can back out.)
