Video Games for life?

what's up everyone. need some advice I am currently 26M and living the AE life. curious to ask the group there opinion on video game play later in life ages 29-35. personal life I have a GF & I am working on a proposal for her. we plan on doing kids etc in a few years probs around 30ish for me.

My question for everyone is 2 parts: do you have time in life still to game wtb later in life? If yes, should I upgrade to PS5 or Xbox X?

thanks
ps. I know there may be better things to do with my time but it's a great way to keep up with old friends etc. who live far away.

The only problem with any hobby or relaxation method is when it becomes an obsession or addiction.
It's important to be able to do things that you enjoy! If this is how you can decompress and have time for yourself, that's great.
My BIL is an avid gamer, and has found ways to enjoy his family, work, and still have time for himself.
My bias is toward the Xbox, but that's because we're an Xbox family here.

There's a very special chemical in the human brain called dopamine. I think most sales folk love it a bit too much, myself included. Like the functional alcoholic who day drinks, or the gambler who can't quit, we love our brain dope. Every tick on that screen causes the drip, one bolus of dopamine. This isn't speculation. It's fact.
Not to be shitty, but all of this is to say that if you're planning a life with a woman you love, and your first concern is losing your video games, you are out of balance.
Please ponder.

Fair. 100% won’t be killing guys in Cod while my 4 and 2 year old are running around my house. More curious if people play in later in life with out kids. But you arent wrong. Maybe I’ll spend my time learning more Spanish.

I’m 23, but same schedule, recently single tho. I hop on Cod after work like at 8 to 9 just relax before going to sleep, other pple watch shows to unwind, but for me killing bad guys is my way. The days of hopping on with some of the boys at 10 and playing til 2 am are over tho

Unless it's something you're doing together, then you likely won't have a lot of time. And if you have a baby, you definitely won't.

unless it's to play more games together, like "who gets to sleep tonight" it's kind of like a simulation game.

If I had the time (which I don't) I would go with the xbox. Same reason too just to keep up with old friends. Since the pandemic we are spread all over the country and it would be nice to have some interaction.

This feels and reads like a Reddit post.

I find video games to be largely a waste of time. I play my switch once or twice a month and use my Oculus for workout stuff.

I quit gaming when I started uni. I'm happy without it. If it's your way of blowing of steam don't give it up

I’m 30 and play most days but unless it’s getting in the way of normal life it’s nothing different then ppl going home and watching tv

I'm 31, just moved into a house with my lady and her 6-year-old. I game with my buddies around 8-10, or on weekends.

But get this, I showed the 6-year-old Astros Playroom and she always wants to play it now, and then she asked Mom to help her and now Mom is addicted to it. She kicked me out of the basement so she could play it last night after the kiddo went to bed.

Video games are a cathartic release from this sales game we play (except if you play Warzone like me, in which case it compounds the existential dread)

My more philosophical advice is that we all have an allotment of time, and we all should be free to do what we want with that time as long as we're not hurting anyone.

Upgrade your system man!

I'm gf and my bf plays lots of games with me. I'd say best ones are cross platform and then switch as well so there's time

I find time to game, not as much as before and I'm not as excited as I used too. I still game on the PS4. Will buy the PS5 once GTA 6 launches.

It gets harder as you have kids but so does everything else. It’s all about balance. One hour here or there is fine but don’t over do it. I’m in my 30s and I have less time to waste but def possible. Just communicate effectively with your significant other and make sure you exercise physically so as not to go from work to gaming which if you do it too much it starts to feel like work
