Anyone else sick of the "sales experts" shitting on sales acumen?

I swear everyday on LI I see someone from Gong or Lavender condescending certain sales acumen that actually works and isn't misleading.

I've always felt that generally anyone preaching "how to sell" is a con artist or is washed out and can't hit quota themselves. What's the old phrase, "Those that can, do. Those that can't teach" if they were actually teaching that would be cool instead of just trying to be loudest in the room/on media platform.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Both of those companies have tried to reverse engineer the sales process, which is great in engineering sciences, but not so great in Sales. Sure, there is some logic to what they have implemented - Discovery, Demo, Close - but the reality of selling is not that simple.

They don't do a good job with companies which have very long sales cycles. Nor do they do well in very complicated sales process.

Gong also heavily focuses on quantifiable metrics, such as call duration and talk time, which can overshadow other important aspects of the sales process. They don't take into account non-verbal cues, like body language, and Gong's focus on their metrics can create awkward situations where the sales person has to hit Gong's metrics and still close the deal - which are not always in alignment.

Selling is,and always will be,relationship driven and success depends on building rapport, understanding customer needs, and providing tailored solutions, which does not always align with Gong's metrics.

So basically Gong is a crutch for poor sales leaders to use in order to beat up on entry level sales people who don't know better.

โ˜๏ธ Amen. I can say, with clear conscience, that I have never sold anyone who didnโ€™t at least like me a little.

And Gong is also misused by leadership with no people skills. โ€œGet the balance of your peopleโ€™s conversations in check!โ€ F U

Or beat up entry sales people who have not built report in their book of business. Building meaningful business relationships takes time especially in medical device and biotech sales roles where the sales landscape is complex and the decision makers are or any combinations of health care, business, engineers, or it professionals.

Waaaaayy too many "sales experts" on LI, especially those who have been selling for 6 months and think they miraculously cracked the code.

Gong and Lavender actually have real, statistically significant data sets. I get more annoyed by individual sales coaches, folks who only have their own personal, anecdotal experience, making broad sweeping statements on how everyone should be selling

Gong and Lavender sell to salespeople. Salespeople at Gong and Lavender probably never sold to non-sales people, so I don`t care much about their advice anyways.

And yes, their post, graphs, and emails are super cringy and annoying.

I think both sides are valid.

It can be both a great sales tool and an application that focuses on metrics which bear little relevance to your sales cycle / industry / product.

Yeah. Often from C Level too on how not to sell to them. They've never done it either.

Most of their stuff only works cause they sell to sales departments and even then there is no one size fit all for sales. Try to get them to sell to IT or Engineering lol

Yes. I get dizzy seeing the barrage of advice daily. Some of it contradictory to each other and some of it putting down or shaming some poor rep.
