Anyone here move from financial services to tech sales?

I'm currently 24, and looking to make the switch from financial services (retirement product) sales to tech sales. I have a finance degree and just got my MBA, but recently realized that I like sales more than I like finance. I currently make $110k OTE, but that is with a 100% commission structure which I'm trying to break away from. I realize that I'll take a significant pay loss moving to an SDR role, but I like the idea of a solid base salary and benefits. Has anybody made the switch to tech or fintech sales from a financial services role, and have any advice on where to start?

FYI - Most employers might be intimidated by your MBA and call you overqualified, especially for a SDR role which requires little to no post-HS education.

I didn't really want it, but got it hooked up for free being an athlete.

An MBA is not a bad thing - I seriously looked into an MBA for years but for me the ROI never made sense.

You just need to set expectations correctly for both yourself and potential employers.  They are not going to seriously consider you for SDR roles, unless they are Fintech and the plan is to fast track you to something else after a probationary/training period.

At your stage, I would be checking in with my college's Placement Center/Alumni Group.  The primary reason for a MBA isn't the education - its the Alumni network.

Yep, I was in your exact same shoes, but older. Just do it, it’s worth it. Fintech may be the easiest to get in to, but it’s all about just finding the right org that is willing to give you a shot.

Our SDRs are fully remote, handling inbound leads only and now making 90k OTE + Stock, so understand that you may not have to take as much of a jump back as you think.

Same boat as you here as some others have mentioned. My approach is just pitching that I've already done the essence of an SDR role (cold calling 10-15 hours per week, door knocking, etc.) but just lack the technical product knowledge (which just about every new rep will). You've got the in the trenches experience of 100% commission based which is an absolute grind and people respect that.

Yupppp .... Im 33 though, so you got a great prospective head start lol

I have been researching al the sectors within tech sales that I am interested in, Otta is really good for this too.

There are so many helpful posts around this, I will come back with a few links for you to read through.

Idk why people get masters degrees for fucking sales jobs.

Seems like a great waste of money and time.
