Apple Watch

Hey guys I know there must be some runners and gym rats on here. This morning because of the rain I ran on the treadmill before work, other days I run outside. For a while now I have always tracked my runs on my apple watch. It has been bothering me recently that all my run distances are always off. Outside I would say is pretty accurate. But when I run on the treadmill the distance on the treadmill is always very different than the distance on my apple watch. Does this happen to other people?

What is more accurate the distance on the treadmill or your apple watch when running?

The watch is rendered useless on a treadmill because it's only able to calculate distance based on stride and arm movement while on a treadmill. Cals will be accurate, but distance will be bullshit.

Drives me insane that calories are calculated based on cardio activities like running or walking. I climb a few times a week and my Apple Watch claims like 40 calories burned for a session, when I am 100% sure it is more than that.

I have a plan where I get the watch for free as long as I meet a certain calorie goal each day, but it’s a problem because A) I want to have a surplus of calories since I’m not trying to lose weight, and B) It only tracks aerobics. Still nice to have to track distances on hikes and whatnot though

Get any of the Garmin Forerunner watches, so much better than the apple watch for this use case. I had an apple watch and switched over and was shocked how much more accurate the garmin was in comparison.

I don't own an Apple watch (I never want to be THAT connected) but I can't see how it would be accurate on a treadmill.

both has it pros and cons but I would still go with Apple Watch because Cal is my metric not the distance

your legs will tell you when you have ran far enough, then you run just that little bit further and only then you are done.

And dont forget pain is weakness leaving the body (unless you have been ran over or something of course lol)

I would say a treadmill. Every time i hit a mile on the treadmill, I want to launch my Apple Watch into the dumpster for it being .10 miles behind.

Also drives me nuts but my gym has the ability to sync my watch to the treadmill so they always add up. I also tho have noticed that as long as I'm not switching speeds much on the treadmill (running distance vs sprints), it's hardly ever too far off.

I use the Garmin Forerunner 945 and, in my opinion, it's much better for calculating when you're on the treadmill. Apple Watch is useless about that.

What I don't recommend is what one company I worked for did many years ago.. Have a stuffed monkey on every new hire's chair and remove it after their first close because they 'got the monkey off their back'.

I got a high five, my name moved up on the leaderboard, and I had a beer in the office with the team before leaving for the day.
