Business Trips - Is your company picking up travel?

Have you noticed your company getting back on the road? Did you ever stop? Best practices to make the trip painless as possible?

I am going on my first trip next week to see a prospect, not sure how to act.

Traveling as much as we want. Wash hands wear a mask if you want. Other than that business as usual.

I'm so jealous of all these roles that travel! I want a role that entails travel... right now I'm only working within driving distance and I'm really want to go spread my wings some!

All suggestions on industry and companies that allow for travel are welcome!

Unfortunately, management or leadership is frequently a pre-req. Very few direct sales positions (especially the ones that actually pay) require or allow travel.

I get that. Only recently did I start to become interested in leadership roles, I’ve always liked being responsible for myself only. As I’ve grown into my career and talents though, I look back and see that I’ve been ‘managing’ without the pay for most of my career. Always training, always helping reps develop their plan of execution, and always being asked to make up for reps that aren’t hitting target.
Maybe I should open up to some management roles… 🧐

You should, it sounds like you care enough.
.
Ironically, I’m about to take an IC role and go back to the grind myself. I’ve always seen leadership as another “task to excel at”. I’ve been fairly well reviewed as a boss, but leadership has never been my thing. I’m way too selfish, and I know it. I’ve always done the right thing for me people, but sometimes I find myself resentful of what I have to do to protect or help them. In the same time and for the same effort I could’ve been much more profitable just working for me.
.
I’m gonna go back to being an IC and make a boatload of cash. Maybe you should go the other way.

I never really stopped traveling this entire time but had to have very specific meetings set up to have the travel approved. That being said the travel for the whole company has picked up more in the past 3-4 months.

I haven't traveled for work since March of last year.   That said, if the customer requests it and I can get there, I can be on a plane.  Our travel budgets were freed this quarter.

However, so far, it's all been remote.  Most customers have teams that are globally scattered, and they're not gathering either.

I have not started travel yet and I am absolutely ITCHING to do so. However, it seems like all of my prospects are also WFH, so where in the hell do you even meet? Coffee shop??

Tbh, convince a prospect to meet up. Even better that you don’t meet in the office. Go catch a game or get dinner, it does things for a business relationship that a basic in person meeting never could.

10,000 unit enterprise client and I text like boys. And we’ve know each other 6 weeks. Just because I came to see him twice and we hung out

Ooh I like that. It just requires a bit more front-end planning, which is probably for the best!

Less than you’d think. Unless the prospect is a PoS, and they do exist, the simple fact that you’re willing to get on a flight to come have dinner with him or something is more than enough.
.
Towards the end of the call: “hey, I need to be in San Antonio next week, if I drop by Houston can I buy you dinner?”
.
After that, ezpz

Yes. Or outside restaurant if they’re comfortable? Or a park? Hell, wherever.

Nah, not attending any conference but also because for a lot of countries Egypt is a red zone and the vaccines being distributed here are not recognized everywhere.

We were supposed to travel to Romania at the end of this month & that just got cancelled. So we're trying to pick back up on it, just not having any luck yet

Spent over 10 weeks on the road so far this year. Have 2 trips planned in the next 4 weeks.
.
But chances are I’m leaving this role, so most of that will come to an end.

Had our first conference last week, in Texas, thought it would be cancelled but alas, it's Texas.

Felt like we were the only ones in masks. Definitely had to take it off and have a beer to not scare people away from our booth.
