"Can I Talk To A Reference?"

Why do prospects ask to talk to references? I'm only going to set up a reference call with a customer who is going to champion our product. It's a waste of time. Convince me otherwise....

Reference asks are stupid and a pain in my ass.ย

I try to push back against them. If marketing has done its job, I should have plenty of G2 reviews, case studies, and testimonials to point to instead of a reference call.ย

With that said, itโ€™s always nice to have a half dozen clutch clients in your back pocket when push comes to shove.ย

I leave this as the last part of the process if itโ€™s an absolute requirement for the prospect to move forward.

Agreed... it is a waste of time statement, until you are much closer to the end of the sales cycle.ย
