How has covid halted hiring for new roles (external or internal) and hiring processes?

tough to even whisper this if your boss stalks your LinkedIn.

My industry/company has been hiring like crazy. A competitor of ours raised close to $500 million a few weeks ago. Certain regions of the country are slower than others, but that's the beauty of remote work, it's democratizing in a way that allows for more hiring regardless of location.

It’s absurd to say the least. But then again I guess that’s what the Pre-IPO growth is….

The beauty of being inches away from an IPO and needing to grow 4x in employee base….$500M of funding later the opportunities are pretty well endless 🤷🏽‍♂️

it’s kind of cool working at a place where they won’t lose good talent in the name of money

If you need more butts in seats I know of humans with beating hearts and hands that can dial and mouths that can ask for purchasing commitment after following BANT between gulps of coffee and Bang Energy

Lmao, that's what you let the shareholders worry about post-IPO. More people = growth, right? Just like how Marketing drives sales /s, growing #s drive sales.

But that is also true in a real sense.

I have met some people in sales with intellect and practices that would make an old southern woman say "bless their heart" after they try to get her to buy something by just yelling product features, not even stopping to ask any questions or even find out if she is the decision maker.

Ok so since I was recently on the hunt I’ve had two very different experiences.

Everyone is looking, but some absolutely are not. If you’re good at what you do, you will definitely land a sweet new gig.

If you want a gig at an exclusive new top tier firm in my industry, they don’t like remote onboarding so have freezed hiring. If places are good but they don’t give a fuck if you burn, you’re still okay.

You know. We hired two new people without ever having them on site for an interview. I feel like covid for us has been detrimental but we’re still growing. Hopefully our society adapts it it goes away and we can grow without these handcuffs on the economy.

What do you mean, handcuffs? The market is higher than it was pre-COVID. My last company grew 500k in ARR in 1 year with all of their employees remote, and many other companies are up in the same time period.

We are socially handcuffed by a faction of society that believes their google research skills are better than career scientists. Once the social handcuffs are off we can get back to in-person commerce, and who knows how fast we can take off after that.

I’m in healthcare. We’ve grown by 1.5M but we are facing SEVERE economic compression since our product requires some in person interaction. We feel like we are about 1/3rd of where we should be. I can’t disclose too much but to extremely simplify what we do. Each transaction requires a human to have surgery, which is very delayed right now. Fair question!

I see you're in Colorado - I have a couple OR related employees at a couple of facilities with a client out there and one of them was planning on getting his contract extended but they won't extend him as they don't think they'll need him any longer. He worked a lot of call rotation early on in his contract (started May), but hasn't in a while as their caseload has dropped. I've seen differences in surgery volume in the last few months in different states/facility types but that's interesting to me to hear about your experience vs. our client's in the same state.

Locums is popular out here but surgery is hard to get in the hospitals still.

There's actually a very high possibility you work with our client lol but I haven't done any work in the Loveland area specifically. Must be different elsewhere, as our client is a hospital system.

I've never worked Locums, just Allied/Nursing but I'd love to have a role specifically working Locums some day either recruiting and/or sales.

It's changed but I think it depends on the company. Some companies did the expected and lay off and did not hire anyone new during this time, and others grew and hired new people. So idk, I've worked for both types lol.

We are struggling with getting quality people coming in the door. Thankfully our HR team isn’t doing the mirror test to see if a candidate fogs the mirror and if they fog it they hire them on, but still would be decent to have a few more warm bodies here. 2019 for us was stellar, 2020 sucked but 2021 is ramping up to be better than 2019.
