Constantly threatening to PIP

I have a friend who’s manager is constantly threatening to PIP him and other sales reps anytime the team looks like they’re not going to make their numbers. IMO this is low brow management and not leadership. Anyone have any advice I can give my buddy on how to handle this? Seems like a pretty toxic work environment to me 🤦🏻‍♂️

Tell him to take that many steps +10% for inflation and find somewhere else to work.

Start job hunting. If they PIP you before you find another gig. Kick the shit outta that PIP and when they notify you that you've successfully gotten off of the PIP notify them that you'll be leaving in 2 weeks. If you're lucky, they'll ask why you're leaving and you get to relish the moment when you tell them exactly why you're leaving.

Honestly I would go to my manager and tell them that it does not motivate me to threaten me. lets try and work on other ways to improve.

The next time the director threatens a PIP tell the director back you have just put them on a PIP and you will be leaving if they don’t change their behavior. Do it in front of the whole team too so that the message gets across to everyone. Then leave.

PIPS should have well defined criteria before being implemented. A seller should know exactly what and when they will land on a PIP if they are under performing
