Do you think things truly come in waves?

I have weeks where I feel like I'm absolutely dialed, having great calls, deals moving along, closing a couple here and there.

And then weeks where everything dries up, feels like I can't get anything moving, and that the end is near.

How TF do you keep the lows high and the highs also high?

Yup. They certainly do.

In sales, the key to happiness is never feeling too low or too high regardless of what's happening. You need to find a calm mid ground or you'll drive yourself crazy.

Agreed but you should do something for each sale made, even if small.ย  That positive reinforcement can only help, IMO.

Definitely - rewarding yourself is a must, even if the treat is just something small.

my youngest brother just got his first solid commission check after some toiling in the dumps. So began his addiction and all of ours.

The key like everyone is saying is trying to keep that even keel or you're ruined

Momentum is huge, that's for sure. If you can find some ways to create small positive wins, that's a nice strategy to snowball into some of the bigger wins.ย

It is absolutely cyclical.ย  Remind yourself of that - you'll probably have times when you have got so much going on, you can't think straight and there's no end in sight, and you can't seem to catch your breath.ย  Then you'll hit a very dry spell.ย ย

Coping with the down times for me means cleaning up anything I had to put aside for the moment while putting out fires: doing any training, account planning, administration, etc., that I missed.ย  ย I know that I'll be busy again soon, and taking all of those other tasks off my list means I'm not getting queries from management about those things.ย  ย I try to find ways to stay busy, which keeps me from fretting about being slow.

We call this the peaks and valleys of sales...but can apply to life in general.

Even if you are not ready for the day, it cannot always be night.

I do think they come in waves.ย  The waves have a lot to do with the daily activities being performed as consistently and optimally as possible.ย  As soon as you take your eye off it or feed the engine with sh deals or not enough fuel, it will turn on you.ย  When you recognize you are on a wave, make sure you are doing the same things you got there so you'll keep riding long after everyone else has faded.ย

This is what all go through in sales. Keep pushing ignoring the waves.

Yes. The key is to mellow out the lows and not fly too high when you're Icarus.

Absolutely. Sometimes there's just times when the "fuck off's" and dead silence is louder and there's very little positive interactions, if any.ย

Comes in waves, cruise the highs and lows without giving too much attention to either.ย
