Based on your comment in the thread, seems like they're focused on getting sales now (are they rolling up a number to a board or investors?) vs worrying about downroad. It's possible they are thinking strategically but haven't included you in the discussions OR they don't want you to think strategically and they want you to stay in your lane.

Sounds frustrating, but maybe your manager can shed some light on plans for the upcoming quarters (?).

So I am trying to generate new business (taking on SDR work, which I’m fine with)

I think that there’s too much focus on collecting data rather than focusing on doing the things that actually brings in money…

I’ve been creating a new sales project where me and my 2 other colleagues each take a vertical… weeks of work and data to prove it’s going to be worth a big shot…. Only to be told that I need to ‘focus on what’s infront’ ‘don’t put too much effort into the project’ etc etc… I’m actually trying to carve out something new here and I am facing internal barriers.

I mean, in times like these, with a recession now grasping the economy, I would have thought bosses would relish the idea of tapping into ‘recession proof’ markets, but it seems as though no one is really fussed at the mo.

Maybe I’m wrong and just being a paranoid lunatic, but just needed to rant about the snails pace that people higher up seem to want to move at.

I’m not the type of person that is happy to sit around collecting pay checks and ‘getting by’ … I’m trying to make a difference! Y’a feel me?

Yes, sometimes it feels like the blind, leading the blind, leading the blind! It's the bad driver scenario. Take one bad driver, have them teach someone else to drive, & now we have 2. Gen. Patton once said, "if everyone in the room, is thinking the same thing, then someones not thinking!" (Hence the blind leading the blind!)
