Does anyone know anything about Rowers/ERGS?

Dearest Savages,

I recently moved, my building gym has a rower, and I love it. I would like to acquire such a piece of equipment.

I WFH anyway and I just spent 2 weeks on my ass in quarantine recovering from COVID from a business trip in Mexico. I’d like to get active in a hurry. My condo is small, but I can fit a piece of fitness equipment and rower is my choice.

Can anyone recommend one rower above another? Any resistance type over another? I’ve looked at everything from $200-$2000, magnetic/air/water resistance, and my head is spinning. Advice would be welcomed.

Thank you in advance for your assistance

Thanks everyone.  The multitude of suggestions in here has made it really difficult to choose.

I’m still deciding between a concept 2, a concept 2, and a concept 2.

I’ll let you guys know which one I go with!

Not to throw a wrench in your plans but you should probably go with the Concept 2.

Why didn’t you make this suggestion earlier? I never even considered this option

Concept2 is the only one I’d recommend. Compact enough, light to move, has Bluetooth connectivity for things.

Does it fold, or lean against a wall for storage?

Fold? No. Lean? Yes—they also simply stand on their end. That’s how I stored 30 of them at my gym.

Again, Concept2 - there is no equal.

Also a big fan of Assault Bikes.

If I want to get my cardio over with as quickly as possible..

It's a love/hate - same with Jacob's Ladder machines.

Me too, love ‘em in theory.

But I have a sports injury from when I was a kid. I used to bike on average 100km a week for fun, but after hurting myself, if I spend more than 5-10 mins on a bike, it feels like someone is trying to put a crowbar under my left kneecap, and yank it off.  Needless to say, bikes are out.

I’m thinking I’ll row 2-3 hours each Sunday, and about 20-30 mins a day the rest of the week

Not sure how often you erg, but if it’s something you are starting to pick up, you will 100% hurt yourself if you try and row for 2-3 hours. Technique is super important and if you aren’t using your legs enough, you will end up injuring your back/ribs. Happens to every rower at some point

Concept 2 is the industry standard for an erg. If you care about your splits there’s no other option. I’ve been using mine for years. If you want to save some money, a used concept 2 or an earlier model will 100% get the job done

Everyone is right. Concept2 is the only way to go. If space is really tight their bike is good and the ski erg from them is also well done

Concept 2’s Bike Erg and Ski Erg are good investments as well.
I’d choose a Rogue Echo Bike over Assault Bike but depends on your goals.

Concept2 rower is the gold standard. I’ve seen a handful of athletes online adopting the Assault Fitness Rower though. Pretty similar and made by the same demons who created the assault bike. Concept2 you can’t go wrong, but if your a sadist, maybe try out the Assault rower.

Concept 2 but the important thing to note is it will be louder than a magnetic (virtually silent) or water rower. I don't think the noise is anything dramatic though. Most folks either have headphones in or music on. If you're watching t.v just turn it up.

Magnetic rowers are a good choice if space is really tight (but not much smaller than a Concept 2 I don't think) as they're more compact than a air rower but I'd still pick a Concept 2.

Water rowers are neither space saving or inexpensive.

Im pulling for Lewis but it feels like its an uphill battle he aint winning. Red Bull has the better car this year, Merc has been trash with strategy decisions, and even though I think Lewis is the better driver its close enough that Max will probably take it.

Mercedes has made a number of strategy errors this year, it has to be said. They’ve gotten sloppy over the years. Sakhir last year, was hilarioussss. Felt bad for George but the Mercedes errors were too funny.
