Let’s get this out of the way, no I am not joking, and no this is not a shitpost. Bare with me.
For real, does anyone like walking as much as I do? And I mean specifically walking. I don’t mean exercise in general, or physical activity, or even hiking. Just walking.
Whenever I travel, other people I know who visit the same cities usually try to depend on other modes of transport, and obviously if practicality calls for it I’m not going to stay on foot, but otherwise the best part of travel for me is walking 15-30km a day (12-25 miles) at my leisure, and seeing the sights on foot. I’ve learned that I enjoy myself the most when I do that.
Generally speaking, I find that I do my best thinking while walking, and this post/question was prompted by the fact the I devised some truly lethal strategies while walking around the city today. The issue with long walks is they’re time-consuming and therefore not super practical if your life moves a mile a minute, but I found the time to spend 4 hours walking today, covered about 16km (10 miles) and mentally, I was able to unravel everything from major life goals, to how I want to furnish my home, to presentation talking points I’m going to use next week.
I’m a quick and devious thinker most of the time (I assume most salespeople need to be) but it’s like my brain goes into overdrive when I’m walking- I’m in total control and I can figure anything out, and this was the first chance I’ve had in a few months to get in a walk like this. When I do finally solve a problem I’ve been thinking about for a while, I almost get that same fight or flight rush I do when I’m in a tense negotiation. It’s not nearly as intense, but that moment of triumph is significant.
Can anyone relate to this, or do I sound totally nuts? And if not walking, are there any other mundane activities that serve to let you unleash your mind? I’d love to hear it savages.
