***Exiting a start up... now what? edited***

Like it says, I'm exiting my start up. I have zero idea what to do now. I've been around the fin-tech finance side for about a decade working with start ups and struggling companies almost exclusively. I've ran and built large multifaceted teams and I have financed millions and millions in software as well- you name it I've probably financed it front to back. I've always been 1099 or contract based

Everyone asks what I'm doing and I have zero idea. It's been a month and I'm bored.

Where is a good place to start? How do I explain my situation when most job posts want employment based experience vs my current situation. Or I get offered a basic position.

***If I worked with a start up I'd prefer to be 1099 but in a larger role I wouldn't mind having a salary plus a commission structure.***

I think a good place to start is to just figure out what would make you happy right now.

would staying 1099 and being more of a consultant be nice?
going into a more traditional sales role?

Its hard for us to tell YOU what you should do

Great question.

If I worked with a start up I'd prefer to be 1099 but in a larger role I wouldn't mind having a salary plus a commission structure. I'll update this with the post. Thank you.

Is there more freedom for you in 1099 roles? I'm trying to figure out what is driving you.

Definitely more freedom. I'm not against the latter but all I know is 1099.

If money wasn't an issue, what would you do with your life? What's your passion outside of work?

Easy answer. Helping or teaching people. It’s been the core of all my selling and building.

Than start a foundation for that, if money isn’t your driving factor anymore.

Fractional sales leader? A lot of startups can’t afford FT trainers and have a need bc of the churn so you could sales train and onboard on a contract basis. There’s always LI sales influencer…

Oh man I can’t tell you how many subprime biz loans I did for “clients” that were either selling a 7 figure coaching program or some
Influencer bs.

On the side I offer fractional cfo services (it’s tedious and usually becomes a basic lesson in sales) but I like the sales lead side.

I don’t do much as much on social media as I used to. I may have to burn some posts and see what’s what.

Good advice.

My response wouldn’t be different. You will have to think about ‘where and what’; if there are any challenges in your journey - experienced savages can share their experiences/tips/tricks.

You have a story to spin, being a 1099 / contract based role, you have the full flexibility to position yourself as a leader / consultant on the space. It depends on what you’re looking for next.

I do and I think the failure on my part is not putting that story out there. I'm also not sure where to start searching.

Yeah, I would be finding a more stable company going into an economic downturn.

That's my thoughts. On Bravado I'm not getting any matches. Any other resources?

@Redrover: Can you send an email with your profile/CV to [email protected] and [email protected]?

Also, please put in a PS that this was recommended by me (community manager, WR). Let's give Bravado Jobs another try and see if there are any matches.

It seems a place like AngelList would be right up your alley. There may be an open role or 2 aligned with your background although you might be overqualified

I've worked for several start ups and none of them had realistic outlooks with realistic upside for me. I'm over it.

Where to start

I was hired at a really good start up about 4 months ago for a SDR role that I was told I wouldn’t be in for very long. They’re gonna go public in the next year, but Zoom Info reached out to me about an Account exec position. Now I’m wondering if I should take the guaranteed route to AE or let my shares vest and get to AE at the place that took me. Usually I wouldn’t consider jumping so quickly, but AE is AE.
