Expensive hobbies you can only participate in because of sales

If I worked any other career I'd be lucky to have the time and money for one of these but thanks to the magic of commission checks I've been able to enjoy.

  1. MMA - with most memberships running 150 a month if not more on top of gi's gloves, and other gear this is what I started with in college and realized I was gonna need serious money if I wanted to be able to pay for this and adult responsibilities
  2. Shooting - milsurp collecting, fancy target rifles, and more duck guns than you can shake a stick at was the cheap part feeding these beasts at current ammo prices ensures I always have a reason to close the next deal
  3. Warhammer - only $100 for 5 plastic men that I have to assemble and paint myself? truly we must be all humble in the face of games workshop selling at margins SaaS bros could only dream of

So fellow savages what hobby do your commission checks enable?

Trying our best!

We sure do, going to be fun balancing family and travel for work...

We are old school and not going to find out. Which probably doesnt help the budget side of things lol.

Get out while you can lol. Things change. They're great, but your flexibility is gone.
And wow - I couldn't do it. It'll bring a whole other level of excitement to the delivery room though.

One thing I'd recommend, is asking if you can 'catch' the baby. I did, and took over delivery once the head and shoulders were out. MAGICAL.

Yeh we made a few travel decisions at the beginning of this year on some trips that we know wont happen for years now we have a kid on route.

I know we were of two minds for a long time but we decided the excitement on its birthday is worth it. Keeps the family on their toes as well.

Oh i hadnt even thought about that, thanks for the advice! Its our first so lots to learn.

Worth every penny. Congratulations! jefe is right - ask to participate.

Mine got expensive when they got older and fell in love with things like horses and playing hockey. But again, worth every penny.

Oh and the things to actually invest in? Stroller and car seat.
You won't need as many clothes as you think, and the baby will live in onesies.
Buy as you realize you need. My wife went to a baby shower recently and so much of the registry always ends up being things that won't be used much at all.

Also any of those really good soft front-wearing baby carriers. I got so much done just cruising around with the baby snoozing and my arms feee.

Also, those rear facing snap in/out car seats are a life saver, but a beast to install properly the first time. I donโ€™t know how they do it in Canada, but in California, you can make an appointment with the CHP, and theyโ€™ll install your infant seat, and show you how to do it. Also, invest in a base for each car if you have more than one. Nothing worse than being stuck with the wrong car and not being able to get out.

Agree with base for each car. Ours was super easy to install. Most fire halls will have certified people to show you.

I learned something! In Canada, itโ€™s fire halls. In California, itโ€™s the CHP. And maybe they are easier than they were a while back. Nice that help is available regardless.

The help is absolutely appreciated - gotta take care of our most precious assets.
But now most cars have the anchors in the seats, so you just slide it in and hook.
Plus 99% of seats in Canada don't have that bar, so you just secure and level. Takes less than a minute
