First time on a conference panel, any tips?

I'll be a panelist at an ad tech conference in a few weeks, it'll be my first time and I'm stoked to get my name and face out to the world and out from under the rock that is cold emails.

I'm solid on the topic of conversation, but any tips so I don't fuck it up? Already picturing everyone in their undies.

I've been to a couple panels where acid would have definitely been an improvement!

You aren’t as funny as you think you are, and a nerd on the panel will get way bigger laughs. Build off of what your co-panelists say.

Agree with @DungeonsNDemos on the cape move.

I'll say:
-wear a cape to stand out
-have at least one canned answer that is from your favorite movie
-bring your favorite bag of chips or maybe a taco or something to start eating halfway through
-Flex on people by interrupting others
-and definitely make sure you bring a money gun (that shoots dollar bills) but fill it with business cards.

If you're in a pinch and can't get great local tacos, then yes. When I'm drunk any tacos will work, but normally a guy's gotta have standards. To be fair, doritos locos tacos are taco bells best tacos

Typically the panelists will get together prior to the panel to discuss topics and make sure it isn't a giant cluster...  If the person in charge of the panel doesn't suggest it, make sure YOU do.  And if there are 2-3 things you want to talk about, this is a good time provide the panel that list of talking points.

Tip 1: it’s ok to not add anything to the previous panelist’s thought. Belaboring a point just to get mic time is not worth your time or the audience’s.

Tip 2: Challenge another panelist if you don’t agree, and feel that the point is harmful to the audience’s perspective.

Listen more than you speak.  In fact, try to speak after others have expressed opinions.  The first time you speak, begin by thanking them for having you on the panel and express your passion for the topic.  Nail it.

honestly....dont take your self too seriously.

I always find people more engaging when I can tell they are relaxed and just talking like we are all friends.

the ones that have to talk like they are on some sort of script always get tuned out.

This is exciting! Well done! I agree with the other points made about prepping the Q&A with the moderator and other panellists. As it's your first time too, try and get a friend in the audience to get a great angle for photos so you can use on your linkedin
