Hard Skills?

What hard / technical skills would be great to add to my skill set as an AE?

I want to upskill and increase my income and be eligible for the highest paying AE roles.

I know starting a business is typically the best route to increase income but am wondering more so from a career development standpoint.

Examples: learning to code like Python? data analysis? what else?

That's hard to answer - what industry? Someone selling networking gear needs a completely different set of hard skills compared to someone selling SaaS to restaurants.

That said, I call myself a technical sales professional and I invested early on in obtaining a CCNA, Microsoft+, and a couple security certifications which have benefited me greatly both on my resume and in real life. Since then I have obtained Juniper and other certifications to continue my technical education and stay up to date.

Completely depends on your industry.

The only thing I can think of that covers multiple industries would be advanced function knowledge within Excel. Even then all that does is allow you to be faster at compiling and analyzing data.

Practice without intention isn't helpful. Ultimately, you gotta find out what skill will help benefit your skill stack.

Selling a specific sales cycle, including the personas you meet with, ARR, length of sales cycle, and the product are hard skills they look for

Soft skills are probably more important, but depends on what you're selling.
Hard to see how learning to code helps you sell more...

Yeah, 20+ years of tech sales here, and no coding.
It's all been soft skills.

Do you have an SE? Ask them what technical skills are most important to understand discovery. They should have some insight.

for ANY industry: Learning how to ask relevant, timely, insightful questions. I can recommend a coach that can help with this if you like. (DM me if interested as I do not intend to promote anyone one here, simply help you upon your quest).

I agree that soft skills are more important.
I would argue speaking another language would be a great skill, but getting into technical and business-level discussions in another language is really challenging. I know several people who went to grad school for that.

Def depends on the industry in what you’re trying to sell. Getting certified in AWS could help with selling cloud software

Too vague a question hon. Could you dig a little deeper into what you are into, what industry and market etc etc ?

I would suggest being good at prompting chat gtp. But be technical skill required unless the product is that technical
