How do I get a mentor?

This has been on my mind, I feel like a mentor would help me navigate my tech sales career and offer guidance when needed. Any tips on how to foster this type of relationship without coming off as pushy? Would it be appropriate to straight up ask for mentorship or would it be wiser to take another approach? Thank you for the insight in advance!

Other than stalking someone at work? I found that people appreciate hard work and are willing to help those who help themselves.
When I was a young rep, I had a great SE who helped me immensely. He saw I was putting in the time and effort to generate pipeline/funnel and so he was willing to help me on the harder stuff. He shared best practices, etc.

I found that as I did better, some of the more senior reps would take notice and also be open to "shop talk".

So my recommendation is to put in the effort and then approach select people for advice on select issues. Don't just ask someone to be your mentor, that's pretty lame. Instead develop a professional relationship with them. Ask them for real advice on real issues. And show gratitude.

Great advice! To which I'd add, when asking someone for help our guidance, be specific. Don't just say "I need help". Instead, ask for advice or help on a specific thing. "I'd like to find out how you do x thing because I value your experience". "May I shadow you in the upcoming demo you have this week so that I can listen in?"

Honestly .. you don't get to pick and choose, I have found that over the last 16 years in sales, I can count 3 mentors... they just show up when you need them most, like guardian angels ๐Ÿ˜‡... just do you and the rest will follow - also this place is awesome if you invest the time, like no other!

I think you just found your mentor, the WR, which beats just having one. With the WR you have professionals in your field who are truly looking to help you with any questions you may have. There are no dumb questions. Remember the dumbest question is the question that was never ask, so ask away.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Contact desired mentor.
Explain why you look up to them and think they'd be a good mentor.
Ask for 20 minutes, once a month, to come to them with problems/challenges you are facing - AND PROMISE to have come up with at least 3 possible solutions / approaches for said problems or challenges before coming to them. Also promise ALWAYS to do what you say you will do and follow through, because to do otherwise is to disrepect the time they dedicate to you.

20 minutes a month is not a big ask.
