How do you switch industries without the industry experience?

I have 8 years of sales experience, my current role being an Enterprise AE. I'm looking to get hired at a Tech company, but it seems to be a challenge to obtain an EAE role without prior Tech experience.

SaaS is a delivery method for software. If you are comfortable with tech, you will have a much easier time.

You may want to look into tech companies that have sold into your vertical, as you will have industry knowledge that could be valuable. After all, you speak the language, and can bring that experience to the role.

Enterprise AE might be a jump, but as long as you have vertical knowledge, you will have a leg up on the next person that doesn't.

Sales skills are transferrable, industry knowledge is the easiest thing to learn.

PLUS, as @Sunbunny31so saliently put it, SaaS is a delivery model not an industry.

Beat on yourself and negotiate a compensation that pays you for results. Lowers the risk to the employer and rewards you for performing.

You need to weave in a compelling story line w past work & future career target and track it back to how it fits w/in tech … skill set/ accolades/ etc… and being different often means a different perspective which is a good thing if spun right …

Show that you have the skills, and learn the industry as you go. That's what I did when I switched from something completely unrelated.
