If not sales, what would you be doing?

I was contemplating the plans I had for my life when I turned 18 and I am not at all doing what I thought I would be. Now, I wouldn't trade the career I have for anything at this point, but I do wonder how life would have turned out if I had actually applied myself in college or if I had taken that ROTC scholarship.

So, if you weren't working in sales, what career would you have?

Considering I am currently helping raise equity and debt for a friend’s new investment fund on the side of my desk, I would probably be back in private equity/capital markets. Easy enough once you have a reputation and a Rolodex.

Would have started my own company. Wish I had done something for myself. While my boss and company are chill. I am still a W-2er.
Sales is like a drug or like gambling, and is addictive as hell. Once you hit a few 100k plus commissions, game over you are hooked.
Just now with kids, wife, extended family and full time job I don’t have much time anymore to start that company.

I don't know @jefe I was a d+ average student and still made it in to law school. Then I realized I didn't want to be a lawyer but that's a whole other issue.

I don't know anyone who pulled that off in Canada... A lot fewer law schools up here.

I DO know a bunch of people that either left law school or stopped practicing not long after the started.

Yeah I don't know what it's like in Canada. I wasn't going to Harvard or anything but I got accepted to a few private law schools and a lot of state law schools. Mostly because I had very good LSAT scores.

When I was a young kid. I had a dream about being an Archaeologist. Still seems pretty cool, if I could dig for Dinosaurs and old stuff. But yeah… I ended I’m in sales! 😂

If I had someone to guide me towards a career in software development, probably that ( I was great in maths). So either a developer of some kind, or maybe my other big interest - translator, something to do with languages.
