If you fail your PIP can you collect unemployment insurance?

About to be put on my first PIP. I'm sure I won't make it since no one else is making quota either. I'm job hunting, but, if I get fired for failing the PIP, does that mean I'm ineligible to get Unemployment? Meaning, I'll be fired "for cause"?

Just don’t quit. If they give you the boot, you can collect.

If you walk on your own, even with a PIP in place, you get nothing.

Assuming you're in US, yes you can take unemployment if you're let go. That's what it's for.

Depends on the state. Some states don't pay for getting fired for performance; they consider that "performance under your control" and will deny the claim.

Absolutely. Unless you commit an out and out crime, you can collect unemployment, most of the time.

Just to put you at ease, you will not be fired for cause if you don’t succeed your PIP.

If they fire/let you go then yes you can 100% collect unemployment. You put away into the system while employed for this reason

you can absolutely still collect! if you get severance you might have to wait until that runs out before applying but just check your local labor laws

Better check with your labor office if you have such with where you at,as in Egypt unfortunately you're on your own either your termination was for a cause or not :)

I do not know, but it would depend on your State. If you fail your PIP, would it be for cause? Check your state unemployment office.

Yes. It's very difficult to not collect unemployment. It can take a minute to actually start receiving it, but I wouldn't worry about it.

First of all, that's bs that you're getting placed on a PIP when most of your colleagues aren't making their number either. Secondarily, the reason I'm so sensitive to your situation is that the same happened to me. After an extensive career in sales, and never on a PIP, I was placed on one and within three to four months relieved of my duties. To answer your question, you can and should collect unemployment but just to give you a heads up. Once you submit for unemployment, you have to spend some time each week to justify your search for employment. It's a pain...but will provide you with $$$ during your time off. Best wishes!!
